HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 1973-001 Resolution No. R73-1, WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Grapevine, provides that on the next ensuing first Saturday in April, there shall be elected the following officials for the said City of Grapevine: COUNCILMAN, Place No. I COUNCILMAN, Place No. 2 COUNCILMAN, Place No. 6 WHEREAS, said Charter further provides that the election code of the State of Texas is applicable to said election, and in order to comply with said code, an order should be passed establishing the procedure to be followed in said election, and designating the voting place for said election. Section 1. That the Regular City Election for the City of Grapevine is hereby called for April 7. 1973, for the following: Office of Mayor Office of Councilman Place No. 1 Office of Councilman Place No. 2 Office of Councilman Place No. 6 Section 2. All eligible City of Grapevine voters shall cast their ballots at the City of Grapevine Fire Station located at the corner of Main and Texas Street, Grapevine, Texas. The polls shall be open between the hours of 7:00 a, m. and 7:00 p. m, on said date. Section 3. All absentee balloting shall be conducted pursuant to and in accordance with the applicable provisions of the State of Texas Election SEction 4. The Chief Election judge shall be rs® c.w. coad . Said shall have the ability to hire number of deputies to assist him in holding the election. Section 5. All candidates must file their application to become candidates with the Mayor and City Secretary of said City at the City Hall, Grapevine, Texas, on or before the 30 days from the date of said election. That all of the said applications shall be substantially in the following form: "To the Mayor of the City of Grapevine, Texas: "I hereby request that my name be placed upon the official ballot for the election to be held on the 7th day of April, 1973, as a candidate for (Name of Office) of said City. I hereby certify that I am eligible to hold said office under the Constitution of the State of Texas and have resided in this State for a period of twelve months and six months in the City of Grapevine and have been an actual bonafide citizen of the said City for six months or more just preceding this application. 'Dated this the day of A. D. 1972, "Signed: (Name of can E[Rl ate) " That the City Secretary shall post in his office the names of all candidates who have filed their applications in accordance with the terms and provisions of this order, and said names shall be posted for at least ten (10) days before said City Secretary orders the same to be printed on the ballot for said election. Section 6. The City Secretary is hereby authorized and instructed to provide and furnish all necessary supplies and personnel to conduct said election. Said supplies and personnel shall be furnished at the expense of the General Fund of the City of Grapevine, Texas. Section 7. The City Secretary is hereby instructed to publish notice of the election once a week for two (2) consecutive weeks in a newspaper published in the City of Grapevine, the first of such publications to be not less than thirty-eight (38) days before the election. Section 8. This resolution shall repeal every prior resolution in conflict herewith, but only insofar as the portion of such resolution shall be in conflict and as to all other sections of resolutions not in direct conflict here- with, this resolution shall be and is hereby made cumulative.
