HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 1973-006WHEREAS, the State of Texas did authorize a vote of the people on an amendment to the Texas Constitution permitting the exemption of up to $3,000.00 of the assessed value of resident homesteads of persons sixty-five years of age or older; and, WHEREAS, such amendment was voted on by the electorate of the St-ate of Texas on November 7, 1972; and, WHEREAS, the required Constitutional amendment was duly adopted by the residents of the State of Texas: NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE: SECTION I. That pursuant to Article VIII, Section I-b of the Texas Constitution, $3,000.00 of the assessed value of resident homesteads of persons sixty-five years of age or older, shall be exempt from City ad valorem taxes when taxes are levied for the year 1973, and all subsequent levies, as approved by the Council, upon the applicant's compliance with the following requirements: (a) The applicant for the resident homestead exemption shall be sixty-five years of age or older as of January 1, of the tax year; (b) The applicant for the resident homestead exemption shall submit to the Tax Assessor- Collector for the City before June lst, 1973, and before each April Ist of sub- sequent years, an affidavit accompanied by _adequate proof that the applicant for the resident homestead exemption is sixty-five years of age or older; (c) Other lawful qualifications that may be included in the tax levy ordinance. SECTION II. That any person who makes a false affidavit in claiming a homestead exemption shall be subject to all penalties and interest charges which accrue for lack of payment of taxes, and all other appropriate criminal penalties. SECTION III. That this resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage, and it is accordingly so ordered. PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, ON THE 20th day of March, 1973. MAYOR
