HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 1969-025 RESOLUTION R-69-25 WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, Texas , in its study of future water needs and supplies has determined that Grapevine Reservoir cannot adequately serve such city's needs, and WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine has learned that the Texas Water Rights Commission has taken under advisement the designation of cooperating local sponsors for the Roanoke Reservoir Project, and WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, Texas is a "Political Subdivision" pursuant to said Article 8280-9, V.A.C.S. (as amended by Acts 1967 , 60th Legislature) , and WHEREAS, said City of Grapevine believes that it is in its interest - and all other parties that water resources of the Denton Creek and particularly the proposed Roanoke Reservoir be developed, and WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, Texas, wishes to become a co-sponsor with Tarrant County Water Control District No. 1 to prosecute a program for construction of Roanoke Reservoir, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVIiVE, TEXAS: Section l . The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to file an application with the Texas Water Rights Commission for designation as joint Cooperating Local Sponsor with Tarrant County Water Control District No. 1 of the Roanoke Reservoir Project. Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its passage as in the Charter in such cases made and provided. IDENTITY OF APPLICANT � The City of Grapevine is a political subdivision pursuant to Article 8280-9, Section 2(E) , Vernon's Annotated Civil Statutes (as ammended by Acts 1967, 60th Legislature. ) II . PURPOSE OF PROJECT ��,� The Aubrey Reservoir will be a multi-purpose project for comprehensive `' development of the Trinity River providing for flood control , water supply, and � recreation. III . REASONS FOR APPLICATIO�� The City of Grapevine is charged µ�ith the responsibility of providing adequate water supply for its citizens. The City's su�ply from Lake Grapevine is not ac�equate to meet its present requirements. The development of the Dallas- Fort Worth Regional Airport will create additional water demands . The City lies on the watershed of Denton Creek and the Roanoke site is the last available site in the area. The City considers it imperative that tney seek to partici�ate in the sponsorship and development of the Roanoke Project in order to insure additional water for its citizens. � I IV.
