BE IT ORDAINE� BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, �""� TEXAS: ��� I . THAT Title 1 , Chapter 8, Section 18 is hereby amended to read as follows: 1-8-18; HOLIDAYS: The official holidays shall be observed, subject to provisions and limitations hereinafter set forth: Floating Day - To be designated by the City Manager January 1 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .New Years Day May 30. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Membrial DaY July 4. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Independence Day First Monday in September. . . . . .Labor Day Last Thursday in November. . . . . .Thanksgiving Day (a) day December 24. . . . . . . . . . . .Christmas Eve Day December 25. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Christmas Day Employee' s Birthday ���, Also any other date which may be designated by the Governing Body of the City. �"" When a designated hoiiday shall fall on a Saturday, the preceding business day will be observed, and when a holiday shall fall on Sunday, the following business day will be observed. Designation of the above or �ny other dates as holidays shall not be construed as conferring on any employee the right to observe some, or to be absent from his duties on the dates above designated except under the following conditions: (A) . The provisions of this subsection are appli+cable to all employees who met the qualifications set forth in the first paragraph. (B) . Department heads shall specifically authorize the observance of any holi.day designated hereunder, and may revoke or restrict the observance of the same in order to provide necessary functions and services by their �. departments. j�,,,, (C) . No overtime or extra pay will be authorized for employees who may be required to work on a designated holiday, but such employee may be allowed corresponding time off with pay and within not more than thirty (30) days after the holiday in question. It should be distinctly understood that holidays are on a current year basis, and are intended to be observed as __ they occur except under circumstances mentioned above, or as provided under paragraph (D) of this subsection. Holidays may not be accumulated except as provided under paragraph (D) hereof, nor may credit for unused holidays be carried over into the following calendar year. (An exception to this provision will be made in the case of employees who are required to work on Christmas Day (December 25) in which case same be observed during January of the following year. ) �� (D) . In case of employees working under a shif t arrangement ��,,, such as in the Fire and Police Departments, and whose duties are such that it is not practical for them to take time off as provided for under paragxaph (C) above, the department head may permit such employees to receive pay for the corresponding holiday and be added to their normal pay. (E) . Temporary employees will be allowed pay for holidays when recommended by the department heads. When temporary employees are part-time workers, they will be allowed prorated amounts of pay for holidays as computed and recommended by the department heads. II. Should any part, section, paragraph, sentence, clause or phrase contained in this ordinance be held to be unconstitu- tional, such holding shall not affect the validity of the rem�ining portion of the ordinance, but in all respect shall remain in full force and effect. � '� PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, ON FIRST READING on this the lst day of May , 1973.
