HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 2007-014 ORDINANCE NO. 2007-14 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING AND LEVYING A ONE HALF OF ONE PERCENT SALES AND USE TAX FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE GRAPEVINE 4B ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, pursuant to Development Corporation Act of 1979, Article 5190.6, Texas Revised Civil Statutes, as amended (the "Act"), the City of Grapevine duly called an election on November 7, 2006, for the purpose of presenting to the voters a proposition to increase the sales and use tax by one half of one percent as permitted and for such purposes as prescribed under such statute; and WHEREAS, the 4B election, as canvassed and tabulated, was conducted in accordance with the law, and a one half of one percent sales and use tax was authorized by a majority of the qualified voters of the City of Grapevine voting; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the authority granted by the Act, this City Council finds it in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Grapevine to levy the tax authorized by the election for the benefit of the Grapevine 4B Economic Development Corporation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section 1. That the findings and declarations contained in the preamble of this ordinance are incorporated herein as part of this ordinance. Section 2. The City Council hereby levies a one half percent sales and use tax for the benefit of the Grapevine 4B Economic Development Corporation. Section 3. The fact that the present ordinances and regulations of the City of Grapevine, Texas are inadequate to properly safeguard the health, safety, morals, peace and general welfare of the public creates an emergency which requires that this ordinance become effective from and after the date of its passage, and it is accordingly so ordained.
