HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 2008-023 ORDINANCE NO. 2008-23 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS AMENDING THE GRAPEVINE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CHAPTER 20 STREETS, SIDEWALKS AND OTHER PUBLIC WAYS, SECTION 20-7 RELATIVE TO STREET NAME CHANGES; PROVIDING FOR THE NAME CHANGE OF A CERTAIN STREET; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, Darren G. Medlin joined the Grapevine Police Department in May 2000 where he served as a police officer until his on-duty death that occurred on June 12, 2004; and WHEREAS, prior to his service to the City of Grapevine, Darren served in the United States Marine Corps and as a Texas Parks and Wildlife Officer; and WHEREAS, in memory of his commitment to our Country, Texas parks service and the City and given the proximity of Trawick Trail to our soccer and baseball field complex, it seems appropriate to honor him by changing the name of Trawick Trail to Darren G. Medlin Trail. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section 1. That all of the above premises are found to be true and correct and are incorporated into the body of this ordinance as if copied in their entirety. Section 2. That Chapter 20, Section 20-7 Street Name Changes of the Grapevine Code of Ordinances is hereby amended by the addition of the following street name change: "Trawick Trail is hereby designated and shall hereafter be known as Darren G. Medlin Trail." Section 3. All provisions of Section 20-7 not specifically amended herein shall remain in full force and effect and shall not be amended by the adoption of this ordinance. Section 4. If any section, article, paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase, or word in this ordinance, or application thereto any person or circumstance is held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance; and the City Council hereby declares it it would have passed such remaining portions of the ordinance in spite of such invalidity, which remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect. Section 5. The fact that the present ordinances and regulations of the City of Grapevine, Texas are inadequate to properly safeguard the health, safety, morals, peace and general welfare of the public creates an emergency which requires that this ordinance become effective from and after the date of its passage, and it is accordingly so ordained.
