HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 12 - Dock and GangwayMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: MAY 18, 2021
SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT DOCK FOR
DOVE LOOP BOAT RAMP AND A GANGWAY FOR FARRIS BRANCH
COURTESY DOCK
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of a replacement dock
for Dove Loop Boat ramp and a gangway for Farris Branch courtesy dock
from EZ Dock of Texas, LP for the Parks and Recreation Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Lake Parks Fund for a total amount not to
exceed $52,892.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is needed due to a combination of high demand and wear
and tear on the existing dock from multiple flood events over the past
several years. Dove Loop is one of the most used ramps in our system
and the current dock is damaged, too small to accommodate the number
of boaters during busy weekends and too short to extend use during
periods at lower lake levels.
The new dock system will have a better anchoring system which will
mitigate damage from wave action at different water levels, is made of
composite materials that last longer than wood and is more usable during
more extreme high and low water levels. The Farris Branch ramp is the
one that can operate at the highest water levels. The gangway to the
courtesy dock is needed for safer access and increases usability during
more extreme high or low water levels.
This purchase includes a replacement dock for Dove Loop Boat ramp that
includes a 16' x 20' platform, 30' gangway, 30' floating walkway and
anchor system, and a 25' gangway for the Farris Branch courtesy dock.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative
(BuyBoard) as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Section 271
and Texas Government Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to EZ
Dock of Texas, LP. The Public Works Department and Purchasing staff
reviewed the contract for departmental specification compliance and
pricing and determined that the contract would provide the best service
and pricing for meeting the needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval.
