HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 1999-019 :.: � RESOLUTION NO. 99-19 ff m A RESC}�UTION 4F THE GITY COUNCIL C}F TNE CITY C}F GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, URGING THE TEXAS LEGIS�ATURE TO 1NCREASE APPROPRIATI4NS FOR ROAD AND BRIDGE MAINTENANGE AND EXPANSION AR1D PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, road and bridge maintenance and expansion is a core functian of governmen#; and WHEREAS, rnability is fundamental to Texas economic vitality and quaEity of life; and WHEREAS, maintaining mability requires a continuing investment of state resources to maintain and expand the surFace transportation infrastructure to meet identified needs; and WHEREAS, current level appropriations to the Texas Department of Transportation {TxD4T} are adequa#e #o address only ane-third of the identified Texas transportation needs; and �? a WHEREAS, Texas should increase its annual investment in surface transpartation infrastructure to a level that will enable TxDOT to address at least one- half of the state's identified transportation needs; and WHEREAS, increased appropriations to TxDOT are necessary ta continue state- funded road and bridge main#enance and cans#ruction programs and simultaneously leverage the maximum amount of federal funding for which Texas is eligible from the Transpartation Equity Act for the 21 st Century. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESO�VED BY THE CITY CQUNCC� QF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS : Section 1. That the 76th Texas Legislature be and hereby is urged to increase annual apprapriatians ta TxDQT by {a} funding the Department af Public Safety fram a source other than State Highway Fund Oq6 so that Fund 006 resources will be available #a maintain and expand road and bridge infrastructure and {b} maving the point of accountability for state mator fuel taxes fram the distributor to the terminal rack. Section 2. That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the offices of the �„ Governar �ieu#enant Governor, Speaker of the House af Representatives, the Chairmart of the Texas Transportation Commission, and the chairs of the following legislative committees: Senate Cammittee on Finance, Senate Committee on State Affairs, House p� Committee on Appropriatians, House Committee on Transportation, House Committee on Ways and Means, and Hot�se Select committee an Revenue and Public Education ,�,:� Funding.
