HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 1996-061 �� RESOLUTION NO. g6-61 �� A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS PRESERVING THE HISTORIC INTEGRITY OF A CUSTOM DESIGNED, HAND CRAFTED, ONE-OF-A-KIND CONFERENCE TABLE AND CHAIRS CONSTRUCTED OF NATIVE TEXAS PECAN WOOD; REQUIRING POSTING OF THIS RESOLUTION AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council of the City of Grapevine have stated publicly their continued commitment to historic preservation; and WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Grapevine have embraced historic preservation as a fundamental community tenet; and WHEREAS, the important artifacts which tell the stories of past generations are, regretfully, too often lost or misplaced; and WHEREAS, proper stewardship precisely communicated over time can provide "� " future generations accurate knowledge of the wishes of their forbearers regarding activities, possessions and impressions; and ��� WHEREAS, the native Texas pecan tree has provided sustenance in the form of edible pecans, comfort in the form of shade, reassurance as a landmark visible from great distances, and protection from cold and heat in the form of firewood and lumber to build with; and WHEREAS, Texas pecan wood is strong and provides excellent raw materials from which to build sturdy, appreciable, long-lasting furniture for generations to enjoy; and WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau commissioned Donald Sharrett of White Settlement, Texas, to construct a one-of-a-kind, four-section conference table and twenty matching chairs, all of native Texas pecan and reminiscent of the Arts & Crafts period; and WHEREAS, this conference room table is custom-built for the Wallis Hotel Building Conference Room; and ,,,�, WHEREAS, the design is impressive in its simplicity and strength and is purposefully reflective of the traditional values and work ethic of the citizens of the City of Grapevine. ...o�. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF �� GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: �,� Section 1 . That all matters stated in the preamble of this resolution are true and correct and are hereby incorporated into the body of this ordinance as if copied in their entirety. Section 2. That this conference room table shall always be regarded as a single collection never to be separated or in any way removed from the Wallis Hotel Building for any reason, or by any person or persons, no matter how well-intentioned. Section 3. That this resolution shall remain posted and on display inside the Wallis Hotel Building Board Room as a reminder of the importance of preserving our heritage today for others to enjoy tomorrow. Section 4. That this resolution shall become effective from and after the date of its passage.
