JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 93-46
A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE GRAPEVINE-COLLEYVILLE
�5 y INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD, CITY OF
GRAPEVINE CITY COUNCIL AND CITY OF COLLEYVILLE
CITY COUNCIL JOINTLY ESTABLISHING THE GRAPEVINE
COLLEYVILLE INITIATIVE TO INCREASE SOCIAL
AWARENESS AND RACIAL SENSITIVITY; AND PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, the City of
Grapevine and the City of Colleyville represent citizens and students of diverse ethnic
and cultural backgrounds that have historically united for the sake of the betterment
of these cities and schools; and
WHEREAS, it is the intention of the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School
Board, the Grapevine City Council and the Colleyville City Council to work together
to maintain schools and communities that are free of the ignorance represented by
racism and prejudice; and
WHEREAS, recent incidents involving youth in these cities and schools point
� to a need to provide a unified, comprehensive effort to rid our schools and
communities of racial intolerance both short and long term.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GRAPEVINE-COLLEYVILLE
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD, CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEYVILLE:
Section 1 . That the GRAPEVINE COLLEYVILLE INITIATIVE is hereby created
to provide coordination, education and an action plan to enhance social awareness
and to support such core ethical values as character, trustworthiness, mutual respect,
individual responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship in students and citizens of
Grapevine and Colleyville.
Section 2. That the GRAPEVINE COLLEYVILLE INITIATIVE values highly the
many activities and programs that have already been initiated to address these
problems and will rely heavily on these ideas and programs to supplement and
complement the efforts of the GRAPEVINE COLLEYVILLE INITIATIVE.
��<.;, Section 3. That the GRAPEVINE COLLEYVILLE INITIATIVE will be funded 50%
by the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, 25% by the City of
Grapevine and 25% by the City of Colleyville.

Section 4. That the Superintendent of Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School
District, the City Manager of the City of Grapevine, and the City Manager of the City

of Colleyville are individually authorized by their respective elected bodies to negotiate
an agreement with a suitable firm or agency capable of providing these services and
to solicit financial support from appropriate funding foundations to reduce the cost to
local governmental bodies.

Section 5. That the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, the City
of Grapevine and the City of Colleyville may individually at any time vote to terminate
their relationship with the GRAPEVINE COLLEYVILLE INITIATIVE.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE GRAPEVINE-COLLEYVILLE INDEPENDENT
SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD, CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS,
AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEYVILLE, TEXAS on this the �8th day
