SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE PURCHASE OF MAINTENANCE AND
SOFTWARE SUPPORT FOR THE PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider the approval for the purchase of maintenance and
software support for the Public Safety Building from General Datatech,
L.P. for the IT Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the General Fund 100, Miscellaneous Equipment
Maintenance for an estimated amount of $153,907.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is for the Cisco Smartnet annual maintenance contract that
provides software and hardware support for the network switching
equipment in the data center at the Public Safety Building.The Cisco
network switches connect multiple devices, such as computers, wireless
access points, printers, and servers on the same network within the
building and throughout the City. These switches enable connected
devices to share information and communicate across the City's network..
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) as
allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271 and Texas
Government Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to
General Datatech, L.P. The IT Department and Purchasing staff reviewed
the contract for departmental specification compliance and pricing and
determined that the contract would provide the best product and pricing
for meeting the needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval
