RESOLUTION NO. 85-20
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, IN OPPOSITION TO HOUSE BILL 2209
RELATING TO CHANGES TO THE TEXAS MUNICIPAL RETIRE-
MENT SYSTEM; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTNE DATE UPON
PASSAGE AND APPROVAL
�,� WHEREAS, a bill has been introduced into the Texas Legislature, House
Bill 2209, which proposes significant changes to the Texas Municipal Retirement
System; and
WHEREAS, the proposed changes would give preferential treatment to one
group of municipal employees and which would greatly increase the contribution
to the Texas Municipal Retirement System by requiring mandatory enrollment;
and
WHEREAS, preferential treatment of one group of municipal employees
over others and mandatory enrollment are counter-productive to the smooth and
efficient operation of the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council in the interests of its citizens, and for the
�ood of the community, opposes any legislation which gives preferential
treatment to one group of municipal employees and which requires mandatory
enrollment in a retirement program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all of the findings contained in the preamble are found
to be true and correct and the City Council does hereby incorporate said findings
into the body of this resolution as if �opiecl in their entirety.
,�t� Section 2. That by passa�e of this resolution the City of Grapevine,
Texas, expresses its opposition to House Bill 2209 and any other legislation which
would give preferential treatment to one group of municipal employees in a
retirement program or which would require mandatory enrollment in a
retirement program.
Section 3. That a copy of this resolution be sent to all Representatives
and Senators in Tarrant County, Texas.
Section 4. That this resolution be in full force and effect from and
af ter its passage and approval.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of
Grapevine, Texas, this the 16th day of April , 1985.
