HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 1980-005 RESOLUTION N0. 80-5 WHEREAS , the Charter of the City of Grapevine, Texas provides that on the next ensuing first Saturday in April , there shall be elected the following officials for the said City of Grapevine : COUNCIL, Place No. 3 � COUNCIL, Place No. 4 � COUNCIL, Place No. 5 WHEREAS , said Charter further provides that the election code of the State of Texas is applicable to said election, and in order to comply with said code an order should be passed establish- ing the procedure to be followed in said election, and designating the voting place for said election. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE - CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS : Section 1. That the Regular City Election for the City of Grapevine is hereby called for April 5 , 1980 for the following : Office of City Council Place No. 3 Office of City Council Place No. 4 Office of City Council Place No. 5 �„� Section 2 . All eligible City of Grapevine voters shall cast their ballots at Grapevine Middle School , 730 East Worth. �w Section 3 . All absentee balloting shall be conducted pursuant to and in accordance with the applicable provisions of the State of Texas Election Code. Section 4. The Chief Election Judge shall be . Said Election Judge shall have the ability to hire up to five (5) deputies to assist in holding the election. Section 5 . All candidates must file their application to become candidates with the Mayor or City Secretary of said City at the City Hall , Grapevine , Texas , on or before the 30 days from the date of said election. That all of the said appli- cations shall be substantially in the following form: "To the Mayor of the City of Grapevine, Texas : "I hereby request that my name be placed upon the official ballot for the election to be held on the 5th of April , 1980 as a candidate for (name of office) of sai City. I ere y certify that I am � eligible to hold said office under the Consti- tuti.on of the State of Texas and have resided in this State for a period of twelve months �, and six months in the City of Grapevine and have been an actual bonafide citizen of the said City for six months or more just preceding this application. "Signed: Name o Can i ate That the City Secretary shall post in her office the names of all candidates who have filed their applications in accordance with the terms and provisions of this order, and said names shall be posted for at least ten (10) days before said City Secretary orders the same to be printed on the ballot for said election. Section 6. The City Secretary is hereby authorized �""" and instructed to provide and furnish all necessary supplies and personnel to conduct said election. Said supplies and personnel shall be furnished at the expense of the General Fund - �r of the City of Grapevine , Texas . Section 7. The City Secretary is hereby instructed to publish notice of said election once in a newspaper of general circulation not more than twenty-five (25) days before the election and not less than eleven (11) days before the election. Section 8. This Resolution shall repeal every prior resolution in conflict herewith, but only insofar as the portion of such resolution shall be in conflict and as to all other sections of resolutions not in direct conflict herewith, this resolution shall be and is hereby made cumulative. Section 9 . The Mayor shall issue all necessary orders , writs and notices for said election and the returns of said election shall be made to the City Council immediately after the close of the polls and the completion of the counting of the ballots .
