HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 1978-002 RESOLUTION NO. 78-2 WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Grapevine, Texas, provides that on the next ensuing first Saturday in April, there shall be elected the following officials for the said City of Grapevine: �* COUNCIL, Place No. 3 COUNCIL, Place No. 4 � COUNCIL, Place No. 5 WHEREAS , said Charter further provides that the election code of the State of Texas is applicable to said election, and in order to comply with said code an order should be passed establishing the procedure to be followed in said election, and designating the voting place for said election. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section l. That the Regular City Election for the City of Grapevine is hereby called for April 1, 1978, for the following: Office of City Council Place No. 3 Office of City Council Place No. 4 � Office of City Council Place No. 5 � Section 2. All eligible City of Grapevine voters shall cast their ballots at the Cannon Elementary School; 1300 West College; Grapevine, Texas . Section 3. All absentee balloting shall be conducted pursuant to and in accordance with the applicable provisions of the State of Texas Election Code. Section 4. The Chief Election Judge shall be Aulton Mullendore. Said Election Judge shall have the ability to hire up ta four (4) deputies to assist in holding the election. Section 5. All candidates must file their applica- tion to become candidates with the Mayor or City Secretary of said City at the City Hall� Grapevine� Texas , on or be- fore the 30 days from the date of said election. That all of the said applications shall be substantially in the !'�"' following form: �rrw "To the Mayor of the City of Grapevine, Texas: "I hereby request that my name be placed upon the official ballot for the election to be held on the lst of April, 1978, as a candidate for (name of office) of said City. I hereby certify that I am eligiblP to hold said office under the Constitu- tion of the State of_ Texas and have resided in this State for a period of twelve months and six kmonths in the City of Grapevine and have been an , actual bonafide citizen of_ the said City for six � months or more just preceding this application. " "Dated this the day of A.D. , 1978" "Signed: (Name of Candidate " That the City Secretary shall post a.n her office the names of all candidates who have filed their applications in accordance with the terms and provisions of this order, and said names shall be posted for at least ten (10) days before said City Secretary orders the same to be printed on the ballot for said election. Section 6. The City Secretary is her_eby authorized and instructed to provide and furnish all necessary supplies and personnel to conduct said election. Said supplies and personnel shall be furnished at the expense of the General F'und of the City of_ Grapevine, Texas. Section 7. The City Sec.retary is hereby instr��.cted to publish notice of the election once a week for two (2) consecutive weeks in a newspaper published in the City of ` ; Grapevine, the first of such publications to be not less �j than thirty-eight (38) days before the election . Section 8. This Resolution shall repeal every prior resolution in conflict herewith, bu.t only insofar as the portian of such resolution shall be in conflict and as to all other sections of resolutions not in direct conflict here- with, this resolution shall be and is hereby made cumulative . Section 9. The Mayor shall issue all necessary orders , writs and notices for said election and the returns of said e�.ection shall be made to the City Council immediate- ly after the close of the polls and the completion of the counting of the ballots .
