A RESOLUTION BY THE GRAPEVINE CITY COUNCIL
URGING THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE TO
EXPErITE THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW POST
OFFICE FACILITY FOR THE GRAPEVINE , TEXAS
DELIVERY AREA.

WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Grapevine,
Texas recognizes the need for a new postal facility to service
the Grapevine area; and
WHEREAS , the proximity of the City of Grapevine to
Dallas/Fort Worth Regional Airport and its unique location in
the metroplex area has caused rapid growth both residentially
and industrially, with the present population of 13 ,500 ex-
pected to increase to 45 ,000 in 1991 and to 70 , 000 in the
year 2000; and
WHEREAS , Mr. C. D. Oldham, Grapevine Postmaster has
recorded a fifty-six percent (56%) increase in deliveries in
the past five (5) years with 3 , 835 total daily deliveries in
1974; 5 , 997 in 1978-79 ; and an estimated 22 ,200 in 1990 , in-
creasing to 40 , 700 in the year 2000 ; and
WHEREAS , the present facility was built in 1960 with
the number of employees increasing from eighteen (18) in 1974
to twenty-five (25) in 1979 with an estimated need for seventy-
�=x five (75) employees in 1990 and one-hundred forty (140) in the
year 2000; and
`"� WHEREAS , the total delivery area not only includes
Grapevine , but approximately seventy-five percent (75%) of the
City of Southlake, Texas ; and
WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Grapevine
is of the opinion that a new postal facility is of vital impor-
tance to the welfare of its citizens and to the economic growth
of the City; and
WHEREAS , the City of Grapevine pledges to assist and
cooperate with the United States Postal Service in every way
legally possible to expedite the project .
NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE , TEXAS :
Section l. That the United States Postal Service is
hereby urged and encouraged to proceed expeditiously with the
necessary steps to acquire a new postal service facility for
the Grapevine , Texas area.

Section II . That the City of Grapevine acknowledges
and expresses its appreciation of the fine work done by the
United States Postal Service in providing services unequaled
and further pledges to support and assist in any future endea-
vors .
Section III. That the City Secretary is directed to
send a certified copy of this resolution to the Postmaster of
the City of Grapevine for presentation to the United States
Postal Service.
