HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 1976-026 RESOLUTION NO. 76-26 WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Grapevine, Texas , provides that on the next ensuing first Saturday in April, there shall be elected the Pollowing officials for the said City of G rapevine: MAYOR �-� COUNCIL, Place No. 1 ��; COUNCIL, Place No. 2 COUNCIL, Place No. 6 WHEREAS, said Charter further provides that the election code of the State of Texas is applicable to said election, and in order to comply with said code an order should be passed establishing the procedure to be followed in said election, and designating the votig�g place for said election. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section 1. That the Regular City Election for the City of Grapevine is hereby called for April 2, 1977, for the following: Office of the Mayor Office of City Council Place No. 1 �. Office of City Council Place No. 2 Office of City Council Place No. 6 Section 2. Al1 eligible City of Grapevine voters shall cast their ballots at the City of Grapevine Fire Station located at the corner of Main and Texas Street, Grapevine , Texas . The polls shall be open between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on said date. Section 3. Al1 absentee balloting shall be conducted pursuant to and in accordance with the applicable provisions of the State of Texas Election Code. Section 4. The Chief Election Judge shall be b'Irs. Charles Goad. Said Election Judge shall have the ability to hire three (3) number of deputies to assist her in holding the election. Section 5. All candidates must file their applica- tion to become candidates with the Nlayor and City Secretary �, : of said City at the City Hall, Grapevine , Texas, on or be- fore the 30 days f rom the date of said election. That all of the said applications shall be substantially in the � ' follo�ving form: "To �he Mayor of the City of Grapevine, Texas: � "I hereby request that my name be placed upon the official ballot for the election to be held on the 2nd of April, 1977, as a candidate for (name of office) of said City. I hereby certify that I am eligible to hold said office under the Constitu- tion of the State of Texas and have resided in ` �� this State for a period of twelve months and six months in the City of Grapevine and have been an '+�_� actual bonafide citizen of the said City for six months or more just preceding this application. " "Dated this the day of A.D. 1977. " "Signed• • (Name of Candidate) " That the City Secretary shall post in her office the names o� all candidates who have filed their applications in accordance with the terms and provisions of this order, and said names shall be posted for at least ten (10) days before said City Secretary orders the same to be printed on the ballot for said election. Section 6. The City Secretary is hereby autriorized and instructed to provide and furnish all necessary supplies and personnel to conduct said election. Said supplies and personnel shall be furnished at the exprense of the General Fund of the City of Grapevine , Texas . Section 7. The City Secretary is hereby instructed - to publish notice of the election once a week for two (2) consecutive weeks in a newspaper published in the City of Grapevine, the first of such publications to be not less � " than thirty-eight (38) days before the election. Section 8. This Resolution shall rep�al every prior resoluti�an in conflict herewith, but only insofar as the portion of such resolution shall be in conflict and as to all other sections of resolutions not in direct conflict here- with, this resolution shall be and is hereby made cumulative. Section 9. The Mayor shall issue all necessary orders, �vrits and notices for said election and the returns o� said election shall be made to the City Council immediate- ly after the close o� the polls and the completion of the � counting of the ballots.
