HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 16 - Vehicle Stabilization Systems CC ITEM#16 MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: MAY 7, 2013 SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE AWARD OF A QUOTE TO PURCHASE VEHICLE STABILIZATION SYSTEMS FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval fort award of a not to purchase vehicle stabilization systems from Advanced Rescue Systems forte it Department. FUNDING SOURCE: Funding for this purchase is currently available in account 100-48860-210-3 (Machinery and Equipment) in the amount not to exceed $18,405.00. BACKGROUND: Quotes were taken in accordance with it Purchasing Policy. Formal bids and advertisements are not required for purchases under $50,000. Three vendors submitted quotations. Informal quotes received directly from the Fire Department personnel were: Advanced Rescue Systems $18,405.00 R & J Rescue Sales and Service $18,717.00 First Alarm Fire Sales $19,575.00 Vehicle stabilization jacks are used to stabilize and support vehicles so that extrication operations or other rescue work can be performed in a manner and environment that is safer forte victims as well as the rescuers. The current vehicle stabilization jacks are not dependable. The purchase of three vehicle stabilization jacks from Advanced Rescue Systems will replace the homemade jacks for use during automobile collisions. The engineered design defines situations for use with limits reducing the likelihood of failure. These new rescue jacks are similar to the homemade jacks that GFD has used; therefore, training, familiarity, and having an engineered design are all reasons they were chosen. 511/2013 (4:11:23 PM) CC ITEM#16 Of the three quotes received, Advanced Rescue Systems submitted the lowest quote meeting specifications.
