HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-04-20 Regular Meeting April 20, 1965 The City Council met in regular session on the above date those present were Mayor Woods, Aldermen Parker, Vandeventer, Huber, Pirkle and Benedict. The Oath of Office was given to Dr. Ira E. Woods to serve in the office of Mayor for two years along with C. W. Vandeventer and H. E. Huber to serve in the office of Alderman for two years. The minutes of the previous meeting was read and approved as read. The Planning and Zoning Board recommended to the City Council that Mr. Fred Hoyt �s property that was annexed into the city by Ordinance No. 65-2 dated �arch 2, 1965 be zoned "F" Local Retail . A motion by Alderman Pirkle, seconded by Alderman Parker to accept the zoning board �s reccomendation and to approve the zoneing of Mr. Hoyt property to "F" Local Retail. Motion carried by Aldermen Ber�edict, Pir�le, Huber, Vandeventer and Parker voting yes with no noes. Mr. G. W. Smith met with tge council to discuss the Truck Route Ordinance No. 65-4 dated April 6, 1965. Mr. Smith stated that the re�outing of trucks Rl�1�CX on S�ate Highway 121 around the E. NW Hwy would hurt his service station business aaat as well as other service station in this area. Also it would hurt the business of cafe as well . Mr. Pete Dickerson also spoke to the council ob�jecting to the truck route ordian ance. . The Council decided to hold up on erecting the truck route Ord. signs until further study could be given to this request of Mr. Smith and Mr. Dickerson. Mr. Chambers and Mr. Wilkins preseqted to the council a preliminary plat of a 70 acre tract of land along North Dove Road and its intersection with Lonesome Dmve Road ,just north of the Grapevine Mattress factory. This plat is to have deed resrictions shall require 80% masonry construction , with a minimum of 1100 square feet of living area excluding garages and porches and one house to be built on nothing less than a acre of land and only one house to an acra of land. The deed restrictions are on file along with the plat in the City Secretary�s office. A motion by Alderman Parker, seconded by Alderman Benedict to approve Preliminary plat of Mr. Chambers and Mr. Wilkins sub�ect to placing inthe res�ricti �ns tht only one house to be built on a lot or a lot and one half. Motion carried by Aldermen B@ne�Hct, Pirkle , Huber, Vandeventer and Parker voting yes with no noes. This area to be known as Dove North t�dditibn. The Preliminary Plat for Section I of Los Robles Estates was presented bv D. L•. Ring & Assoc. , developers and Mr. Overall. A minimun lot s�2e of 15,000 sq. ft. and a minimum constructinn of 1 ,700 sq. ft. the street to be black topped with Hot Mix Asphalt 2" thick. This area is in our extra territorial limits. A motion by Alderman Pirkle , seconded by Alderman Benedi�t to approve this preliminary plat of Los Robles �states. Motion carri�d by Alderman Parker, Vandeventer, Huber, Pir�le and Benedict voting yes with no noes. Discussion was given on the opening of South Ma3n Street to the Old Euless Road. A motion by Alderman Pirkle , seconded by Alderman Huber to authori2e the city to file a formal application with Texas Water Commissib n � asking for additional water supply f rom the Lake asking f or 15,000 p acre feet of water for future use. Motion carried by Alderman ➢a��; Vandeventer, Huber, Pirkle and Benedict voting yes with no noes. Bids were received from the followigg people on constructing a new Police and Water DeparLment buildigg �just north of the Fire Station. Daniel � Daniel Erect buidling furnishing all labor and material according to plans and specificati�ns for �13,940.02 Carlson - Skelton Inc. Proposes to build according to plans and specification, furnishing labor and materials neceesary to complete construction. Continous Acme Elgin brick inside front wall, inside jail wall , and over to PoliceDept. partition . . 74�. This is recommended to work masonry bond and security on the east end of jail. Total $15,747•24 Custom Feature Homes, Inc. To construct ,jail and police station as described on the plans and specifications does not include any paving of parking areas or signs on the structure . Total of �17 ,381 .6� A motion by Blderman Pirkle , seconded by Aldaman Vandeventer to award contract to J. B. Daniel of Daniel & Daniel to construct Police �tation, Jail and Water Dept. building, at a total sum of �13,91�-0.02. Motion carried by Aldermari Parker, Vandeventer, Huber, Pirkle and Benedict voting yes with no noes. Discussi �n was given on appointing a Library Board to act in an advisory capacity to the Libraian and City �ouncil . The following person were appdnted to serve on the Library Board for the City in an advisory capacity: Mrs Nona French Mr. Guy S. Benedict Mrs �ary Ruth Tate �� Miss Nancey Armstrong Mr. Herbert Huber —cl�o�YM4,�► Mrs Mary Virginia Simmons A motion by Alderman Pirkle, seconded by Alderman Vandeventer to appro ve the appointment of these people listed above to serve on the Library Board in as advisory capacity for the City to recommend #mx�iacx4�t��r needs of improving the Library to the City Counci 1 . Moti �n carried by Alderman Parker, Vandeventer and Pirkle voting yes with Alderman �enedfct and Huber not voting. City Council instructed Secretary to have the Stop sign at the corner of Ruth Street with its intersecti�n wi� Texas Street pfcked up for the present time, not to be erected at this time . Discussion was given on black topping the Alley between Main St. and Ba rton street in the block between W. Worth Street and W. Franklin Street. Also discussion was given about black topping the remaining part of South Ball street. Prices was to be gotten on doing this work for the council consideration.
