HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-03-20 Regular Meeting � Narch 20, 2962 The City Council met in �egular session on the above date those present were Mayor Johnson, Alder�ren Kaker, Deacon, �ilatthews, Harwell , and Hayward. The m�nutes af the previous meeting was read and approved as read. Mr. Kelley of Bentley-Gordan Associates of Dallas met with the Council to discuss the pcassibilites of the City entering into a prt�gram af bu3. 2ding low rent hots es. These hauses would be rented tc� peaple wha are not able ta pay the rent for a nicer hom� to live in and who are now living in sub-standard houses. Mr. Kel. le�r advised one of the requirements of the City would be ta Iay out a street and black top it to the property line of the develapment, also to run water and s�wer 2ines to the property linesy and t�o furnish water to the houses, but the houses would pay th�ir water bi21s, A housing su thority would have ta be estabiish�d by the city for Grapevine. The council advised Mr. K.e11ey that they wcruld take this under cansideratian and contact him if and when theyare ready to go into thi s pro,ject. Mr. Glaver of the Lone Star Gas Co.met with thW cou�cil in r�fer�ne� to r����av� lin� '�iashinc�tan Str�,� c in the P�TOr�hsic?e Additi�n. Mr. G2aver assured the cc�uncil that the Gas CompanY . would replace all gravel that might have been damaged by them in replaceing gas 2ines along this street, they wou3d pay �bt�i�.� s�acx� far th� ir da�reges by replacir�g the grstvel . Mr. Higgens was present and agreed that he would put gravel in the places �re�� he had run a water line in the street. Mr. Glover and Mr. Higgens will meet with the Mayor, Wednesday, March 21 , 1962, and see if something cou2d be worked out in regrave2ing f�bt� Washington Street. The cost of placing 6'� of grav�l on the entire str�t and cutting a ditch orz each side wauld� be �270.OQ, i��x�cic��x#�a�Dc�xa�x�R$�Cx��ac�sxr��x�xax��x��x��x���s. A motion by Alderman DEacon, seconded by Alderman Hayward for the City to replace 8 loads of gravel on Washington street as the Cityhas done some damage to the street whe`(t water meter were installed alang the street. Motion carried. If the street is not eompletely graveled from one end to the other end, the City should not place the eight loads of pravel on the street. Motian , carried. � � U � Mr. Telford met with the Council asking the City to coi�sider placing some street lgihts in the Park Area, he w�n,�d �e willing to help with the cost of operation. The Secretary was to contact Silver Lake Enterprises and have T. P.L. to make a survey on the lights f or the Park Area. A motion by Alderman Hayward , seconded by Alderman Deacon to exonerate the 1959 Taxts charged to the F�rst Presbyterian Church. Moti�n carried. A motion by Alderman Hayward , seconded by Alderman D�'acon to ' approve the request of Silver Lake Enterprises connecting onto the 6'� water line now serving the Headquarters area of the Carps of Engineers, if this connection does not affect the existing , contract that the City and the Corps of �ngineers have. This is with the final approval of the Corps of Engineers. Motion carried. Secretary is contact Mrs Earl Yates and set up a meeting with the Civic Center Committee and work out some by-laws for the Civic Center operation and the by-laws will be presented to the Council for their approval . , Bids, plans, prices , etc. was discu�sed in reference to the building of a new Fire Station. A motion by Alderman Deacon, seconded by Alderman Kaker to approve the spending of $15,577.66 for a the construction of the new Fire Station. The Mayor was authorized to sign the contracts with Mesco Steel Co.and the sub- contractors in the building of the fire station for the Qty, At.�tested by the City S�'cretary. Motion carried . Remodeling of the City Hall was discussed and a suggestion was made that a like amo�int of money be set aside to do the remodel- ing. Suggestions was made to do the work and hire a carpenter by the hour- to do this work and do as much work as the amount of money vc���C�txa�ici�� set aside.
