HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-10-16 Regular Meeting � i Y � ) October 16, 1962 The City Council met in regular session on the above date those present were Mayor Johnson, Aldermen Pirkle , Deacon, Parker, and Woods. Alderman HarwelZ being absent. The minutes of the previous meeting was read and approved as read. Fire Chief Greener presented a bill to the Council for additional electrical work that was done when the Fire Station was bui lt. The bill was to J. W. Jordan for �56.75. A motion by Alderman Pirkle, seconded by Alderman Deacon to pay the bill to J. W. Jordan. Motion carried. Hereafter any ma,�or expenditure by the Fire Department will be approved by the secretary or council . Chief Greener gave his report to the council on the attendance of fire meeting and drills and fire attendance. Total number of firemen ---- 26 Total Fires ---- 42 Total drills or meetings ---- 20 Eech fireman is to attend 25� of all fires and attend 409� of all meeting and drills. Une firer�an did not meet these requirements and will be dismissed fror� the department for not complying with •� the rules and regulations of the state, city, and fire department. Freddie Joyce, re presenting the Junior Chamber of Commerce , met with the council asking tha.t the City turn the operation of the Civic Center over to them so they could take care of the building and improve it. The council suggested that he talk with Mrs Earl Yates, the chairman of the Civic Center committee. The Mayor reported to the conncil on the extension of Daniels, Vine and Hanger streets to South Main street. A motion by Alderman Deacon, seconded Alderman Pirkle to secure and accept the 50f right-of-way extension of Hanger, Vine , and Daniels streets east to the South Main street extension. This was to be done to help prevent floodi�lg on the east side of Airline Drive , and to drain the water from Airline Drive and other streets in this area east along the proposed street extensions to South Main street, also to give an outlet to the City�s business district for the people in this area. The City will open one of these streets each year, until all three are opened, by black topping a 27 � street with curb and gutter to South Main. Total footing is approximately 140 feet. Motion carried. ; •a The Mayor infomed the Council of an offer he had f'ras Montgomery Ward 8 Co. They offered to send at no charge to the City a study and plan that they have made on Northeast Tarrant County if the City would like to have this. Alderman Deacon sugqested this study and plan be accepted and a letter 4E appreciat�on be sent to Montgomery Ward and Company thanking them f or this study. The council agreed to meet with the school board and try to work out some kind of an agreement on ,just what to tax in the way of personal property tax and see that everyone is taxed alike. Alderman Woods suggested that some actiQn be taken on the Master Pian for the City. Discussion was given on trying to open Ruth Stre�t to Loop 10. The president of the Chamber of Commerce was to contact Mr. Leslie Hill and see if he wil. l open Easy Street f r�n the railro�d to Loop 10 so the City can open Ruth street from Walnut street to Loop 10.
