HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-04-02 Regular Meeting April 2, 1963 The City Council met in regular session on the above date those present were Mayor Johnson, Aldermen Harwell , Parker, Pirkle , and Deacon. P1ace #4 being vacatedue to the resignation of Dr. Woods from this position. The minutes of the previous meeting was read and approved as read. A motion by Alde'rman Yirkle, seconded by Alderman Yarker to discontinue carrying •collision insurance on the 1961 Garbage Truck, the 1957 International Fire Truck and discontinue the insurance on the Boat and Motor as they are now kept inside the Fire Station. Motion carried. A motion by Alderman Deacon, seconded by Ald�rman Yirkle to authorize Texas Power & Light Co, to install the new type street light near the Fire Plug along East Dallas Road west from the intersection of E. Dallas Road and E. NW Hwy. Motion carried. A letter was received from the school board requesting that the City Council authorize a request to Texas Power & Light Co. for installation of inercury vapor lights to illuminate the Cannon Elementary School Campus. A motion by Alderman Deacon, seconded by Alderman Harwell to write the School and advise them that the City has no objections for the school and Texas Power 8� Liqht Co, to instali mercury vapor lights on the Cannon Elementary School campus. Motion carried. Discussion was given on the dangerous intersection of Hlghway 121 and South Main Street since a Stop Sign has been placed on Highway 121 to stop traffic before entering upon South Main Street. The location of the sign i s not vi sible ��a��€�#a� £or the motori st to see and comply with. The Highway Department has consented to relocate the stop sign to the center of the Highway on an Island so it will be visible for a greater distance . The Curbing Ordinance was discussed in reference to protect3ng our streets. A motion by Alderman Deacon, seco nded by Alderman Harwell to authorize the Police Department to wear short sleeves shir�s with a neck tie during the dummer months as the official uniform for the Grapevine Police Department. Motion carried. A motion by Alderman Pirkle , seconded by Alderman Deacon to pass and approve Resolution No. R63-4 declaring results of the City Ufficers election held April 2, 1963, at the Fire Station in the City of Grapevfie , Texas, with a total of 538 votes cast.
