HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-04-18 Special Meeting � t' # April 18, 1963 ` The City Council met in a call seasion on the at�oove date those present were Mayor Woods, Aldermen Parker, Vandeventer, Huber, Pirkle, and B�enedict. Mr. Jim Hancock water superintendent, who has resigned effective May 1, 1963, expressed his appreciation and enjoyment that he has experienced while being employed by the City. A motion by Alderman Pirkle, seconded by Alderman Benedict to appoint Floy Ezell as City Secretary for the coming year. Motion carried by a vote of: Alderman Pirkle, Benedict, Huber, Vandeventer, and Parker voting yes, with no noes. A motion by Alderman Pirkle, secanded by Aldermam Huber to appoint Donald Hall as Police Chief for the coming yeat. Motid�n carried by a vote of: Alderman Pirkle, B�enedict, Huber, Vandeventer, and Parker voting yes, with no nces. A motion by Alderman Benedict, seconded by Alderman Huber to apQoint E, L. Jerdan Fire Marshall for the coming year. Motion carried by a vote of: Alderman Pirkle, H4enedict, Ruber, Vandeventer, and Parker voting yes, with no noes. A motion by Alderman Pirkle, seconded by Alderman Benedict to set the lst and 3nd Tuesday evenings as regular monthly meetin g for the City Council. Motidn carried by a vote of : � Alderman Pirkle, Benedict, Huber, Vandeventer, and Parker voting yes, with no noes.�_� � Mayor Woods ask for nominati�ns fram the council for the off ice of Mayor Pro-tem: Alderman Vandeventer nominated Alderman Parker to serve as Mayor Pro-tem. Alderm an Huber made amotian, secon�ed by Alderman Vandeventer that the nominations cease and that AldeLm an Parker be elected Mayor Pre-tem by acclamation. Motion carried by a vote of: Aldermen Pirkle, Benedict, Huber and Vandeventer voting yes, � Alderman Parker not voting. Mayor Woods declared Aldexman Parker Mayor Pro-tem for the coming year. A motion by Alderman Parker, seconded by Alderma� Pirkle to authorize Mayor Wood� and City Secretary Floy Ezell to sign all City Checks, etc. Motion carried by a vote of : 'Alderman Benedic t, Pirkle, Huber, Vandeventer, and Parker voting yes, with no noes. Police Chief Don Hall requested that Ray Waters be digmissed from the Police Department and that Burl Richardson be hired in his place as a patrolman and requested that the council take acti�n on this matter at once. A motion by Alderman Parker, seconded by Alderaran Pirkle to table this matter of dismissing Ray WAters and hiring Burl Richardson as police patrolman until the next meeting night. Motion carried by a vote of: Alderm an Benedic t, Pirkle, Huber, Vandeventer, and Parker voting yes, no noes. � } � r $ € ; A motion by Aldertnan Pirkle, secanded by Alderman Parker to set the salary of Police Chief Don Rall at $450.00 base pay, plus a $25,00 expense allow�ce for unifoan s and $5.00 for Lion's club dues per month, effective Maq 1, 1963. Motion carried by a vote of: Alderman Benedict, Pirkle, Huber, Vandeventer, and Parker voting yes and no noes. City Secretary was to prepare a sys tem of purchasin g materi�ls for the city by using a Purchase order and have it approved by the council. A motion by Aldeiman Pirkle, seconded by Alderman Huber to pass and approve Reolution No.R63-S-6-& 7 of Appreciation to the outgoing mayor and Al�erman and that a copy of the resolution be sent to each man. Motion carri�od by a s vote of: Alderman Benedict, Pirkle, Huber, Vandeventer, and Parker voting yes. no noes. Complete Resolution on file in the City of Grapevine*s Official Ordinance Book. The request for a taxi-cab franchise by Mr. Thomas Love, 1104 Hensley, Arlington, Texas was tabled for further study. THe secretary was to infomr Mr. Love of this study of the franchise. An annexation petition of Jack 0. Cain and wife Margaret Louise Cain asking ,� that a 200' x 200' fbot of land in the T. Mahan Survey along North Dove Road be annexed to the City. The land is contiguous and adjacent to the City of Grapevine, Tvxas A motion by Alderman Parker, seconded by Alderman Huber to accept th�s petition of annexatimn of the Cain Property along N. Dove Road. Motion carried by a vote of: Alderman Benedict, Pirkle, Huber, Vandeventer, and Parker vofiing yes wifih no noe�. This annexation will be as Ordinance no. 63-4 filed in the Official Ordinance book of the City of Grapeviee. � Discussion was given on using Lake water and also the secretary to pr�sent a summer r�te ack��c schedule to the council for their study. A motion by Alderman Pirkle, seconded by Alderman Huber to raise Patrolman Hamp Scruggs s�lary to a base pay of $350.00 per month plus $10,00 unifornm allowance per month.
