HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-03-21 Regular Meeting t $ March 21 , 1961 The City Cbuncil met in regular session on the above date those present were Mayor Tip Johnson, Alderman Matthews, Kaker, Harwell, and Hayward. Alderman Deecon being absent. The Mayor informed the council that Cullum Constructi�n Co. had moved in and was doing private work in the p�ace of starting on the Cityts work per contract #6. City Engineers contacted Cullum construction Co. and asked to them to place another crew here to begin the City work immediately. Also water leaks th�t have occured on the new water llnes that have been put in by Natkin & Co. and was not checked for leaks before the nev�r streets was put down, and now leaks have occured and are ruining the new streets, council agreed that Natkin & Co. should repair the streets or put them back in as good conditinn as t�.ey were. The drainage problem in the Bellaire Addition and on Lucas Drive and places where part of the street was curbed and other par�s not curbed.was discussed. Mr. A. B. Allen met with the council and asked that Eckley St. be opened or a drainage ditch be cut, from Walnut St. south to the railroad, so as to take care of the water drainage by the Memorial B�ptist and the Presbyterian Church. Council informed Mr. Allen that the council had no authorit�* to open the street � or cut a drainage ditch as that is private property and does not bel or�g the Ci ty. �� A petition was presented to the Cour�cil signed by 10 property oarners on North Main St. protesting a convalescence Home being put in at 414 N. Main St. as this property is 2oned as "A" Dwelling, the convalescene horue is in violation to City Zoning Ordinance 55-6. A letter was to be writtten to Mr. Aubrey Smith and given to the Police Dept to be given t0 Mr. Smith, informing him that he is in violation to Cityts Zoning Ordinance and that operation of this home be discontinued at once. Fire Chief J. C. Greener was to have the water tank on the Chev. Fire Truck repaired or replaced with a new tank. A motion by Alderman Kaker, seconded by Alderman Matthews to annex County Road #3012 from the present City Limits east to the � Tarrant-Dallas County Line. Motion carried. F. Martin Survey, Tarrant County, Texas, motion carried. ordinance No. 61-5 Complete ordiaance on file in City Ordiance Book. A rnotion by Alderman Kaker to accept street ordinan�e which will includehorses with sho�s on, seconded by Aldeman Matthews, motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 61-6 Complete Ordinance Qn.file in City Ordi�a�ce book Council requested that a copy of Mr. Geo. P. Hines letter in reference to a anti-noise ordinance be sent to each persons name appearing on the petition be sent a copy of this letter. A letter was read from Dr. E. L, Lancaster requesting the City to contact Cullum Construction Co. in reference to laying the water and svwer lines to Ridge Crest EBtates for them. Counci 1 agreed to contact Cullum Construction Co. for the Lancaster �s with the Lancasterts paying the cost of the line plus a 7�� engineering fee. A letter from Hugh Millican requesting that the City pay him for the damages on his car that fell into a open ditch that was opened by Mr. Charlie Hi11 . Council suggested that Mr. Hill secure a money order at once and send to Mr. Millican for the damP'ges he received. Twvo let�ers was read fro�► Maggard Motors Co. and Mr. E. D. Grider, Grapevine Welding and Machinery Shop informing the City of some bills that Mr. C. Hill owes them for the past three months. This was to be taken care of by Natkin & Co. as they are responsible for the work and bills owned on this contract that Mr. Hill is doing. City will not pay N�tkin x Co. the full contract price until all bills are taken care of. A m otinn by Alderrnan Harwell , seconded by Alderman Hayward for the Mayor and Alderman Kaker to work with the Corps of Engineers in opening and improveing new picnic ares in the Silver Lakes Park area, and authorizing the spending of the money out of the Park Fund to do thi s work wi th. Moti on carried. A motion by Alderman Harwell , seconded by Alderman Kaker for the City to take over the Garbage Service for the City of Gra��vine "'' and makeing it complusory for each person witl��n the City Limits that is connected to hhe City Water system to avail themselves of this service. Motion carried. Bids for a new Garbage truck was to be taken at once.
