HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-10-17 Regular Meeting October 17 , 1961 The City Council met in regular session on the above date those pres�nt were Mayor Tip Johnson, Alderman Matthews, Harwell , Kaker, Deacon, and Hayward. The minutes of the previous meeting was read and approved. Mr. Higgins gave the council a report on the water lines now in the 1Vorthside Addition. There is one water meter with 7 houses being served thru this ome meter and two of the houses, being served .thru this one meter, have meters of their own which have to be substracted from the master meter reading to figure the consu�ption of the other five houses. These house'sare being sevved with one 3/4" line from the master meter. This was to be looked into and see if a larger line could be i nstalled and a seperate meter for each house .would not be practical. Mr. Glenn McWhirter, of Free2e , Nichols, and Endress, met with the council to be informed on ,just what the city will expect in the correction of the damaged water treatment plant caused by the chlorine tha.t e��aped. The city will expect new equipment thru out the plant that was exposed to the chlorine gas, also the City expects engineering supervision at no cost to the city. A letter from Ted Willho3�e informing the council that the rent on the Library building would be raised from �50.00 per month to �65.00. The council will try to work out an arrangement for moving the Library Ln the Civic Center building . Also new locks was to be put on the civic cettter building. A motion by Alderman Kaker, seconded by Alderman Harwell to vacatie and abandon the alley located in Block 30 of the Yates & Jenkins addition to the City of Grapevine. Beginning at a point, the northeast corner of Lot 2, Block 30, Yates & Jenkins a�dition. Thence south 115 feet to the southeast corner of said lot 2. Thence east 12 feet to the southwest corner of Lot 3, said block 30. Thence north 115 feet to the northwest corner of lot 3. Thence west 12 feet to the place of beginning. Motion carried. A motion by Alderman Harwell , seconded by Alderman Deacon to accept the street dedication of Joe N. �ox. As a public roadway or street is to be an extension of Walnut Street east 245 feet from the intersection of said street with Eckley Street. Motion carried. A motion by Alderman Kaker , seconded by Alderman Hayward to authorize Texas Power & Light Co. to install 4 street lights at the following locations: Intersection of Dellwood Drive and W. College, intersection of W. College and Ridge Road , intersection of W. Wall and Ridge Road , and one 1 ight #Axa��ag�x�i�gx��a��x on Ridge Road about half way baetween the intersection of Ridge Road and W. Wall� 'a R� n� ' ' :��. Motion carried. 4 � � � A motion by Alderman n�.rwell , seconded by Alderrnan Deacon to ask Texas Power & Light Co. to make a survey along Main street in reference to replacing the wooded poles with metal poles and eliminate as many wires crossing the street as possible. Also if they would help during the Christmas Holidays to decorate the poles with Chri �tmas decorations. Motion carried. A motion by Alderman Kaker, Seconded by Alderman Deaaan to contact the local Chamber of Commerce and see if they would be interested in having some street maps made of the city by selling advertisements to be put on the maps. Motion carried. A motion by Alderman Kaker, seconded by Alder�an Hayward to advise Southwestern Contracting Co. that the City of Grapevine is willing to let them �:ve water from the lake if the City of Dallas and the Dallas County Park Cities will share in the amount of water to be taken from the lake. Motion carried. Wickes Lumber Co. was to be written a letter explaining the benefits that the Cit� wi 11 offer to r��he�n;�n�.� within our city. The city will run a 6 water line to their property lineyat the proposed location�and plece a fire p;�ug on it for fire protection, also a septic tank will be installed by the city and maintained by the city ,and the Lumber Co. will pay the regular commerical sewer charge each month, also garbage service will be a'�ailable with twice a week pick up �rtt�Cxax�tmi��x�Rx�A�xB�x�a���a service at no ch$rge to the company, providing that each pick-up does not e�ceed one 20 gallon container of garbage or trash, and the Lumber Co. will be included in the regular police patrol at night� and week-ends, also when available they will make any escorts that the company may have ��onn the Lumber Co. to the bank as they do other merchants in our city. A motion by Alderman Deacon, seconded by Alderman Hayward to have the auditing firm of Parrish and Murrell tv audit the city books for the nine month period ending September 30, 1961. Mot�n carried. The secretary was to talk with the other employees and see if it be agreeable for the city to pay 2/3 of the premimun on each employee on the proposed hospita� plan. The Mayor gave the council a areport on some bids he had taken on purchasing an Air Compressor-5 HP-23 CFM for the sewer lift station. Moody-Day Co. �688.00 C. Goad 800.00 Approximately Also suggested buying a 55 gallon asphalt pd� to patch the streets. Council appointed Mayor Johnson and Alderman Deacon to look into this and also authorized them to purchase this equipment for the City. Estill Street ad,joining blocks 101 and 103 will remain as is.
