HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-06-21 Regular Meeting Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Grapevine was held on June 21 , 1��0 with the following members present: M��or -• Tip Joh�son; Aldermen, A1 Harwell, Ed Hayward, Harold Kaker, and Floyd Deacon. Act3ng City Secretary. Jim Hancock. ,; ��Alde, man Kaker motioned to explore the po��ibility of getting � on all property in Grapevine. Motion seconded by Alder- man Hayward and pas�ed. Meeting with the Council were the following members of the Grape- vine Independent School District � s School Board: James Buckner, Bill Powers, Corbit Emery, and Millard Dilg. Also present were School Superintendent W. 0. Echols and Business Manager GeArge Tuttle. The purpose of the �oint meeting was to discuss the po�sibility of a 3oint program of reanpraisal of the properties in the City and in the School Distric�. Mr. Erick Ehrenborg of the Ehrenborg Appraisal Company was present to outline to both groupes w�at a program of this kind would consist of and to answer questions which might arise. Both groupes agreed that further study on the program will have to be made before a de- cis�on can be made. Alderman Kaker motioned to approve Silver Lake Enterprise� plans for construction of a floating building to be leased to East Texas Motor Freight Lines. Motion seconded by Alderman Harwell and passed +�y an aye vote by all . Bids for supplying gasol�ne to the City for the period Julyl , 1960 through June 31 , 1961 were dpened and read. All bids were based on the posted tank wagon price of � 0.209 per gallon 12ss discount specified in each bid. Discounts specified were: Mobii Oil Company; �0.0220• Gulf Oil Corporation, �0.340; Humblz �il and Refining Company, �0.0175; Sinclair Refining Company, � �0.037. Alderman arwell motioned to aoqard the contract to Sinclair Refining �ompany, who turned in the best bid . Motion seconded by Alderman Hayward and passed by an aye vote by all . Alderman Kaker motioned that the City pay Wm. Cameron & Co. $531 .25 for the City�s half of the cost of the Construction of Surry Lane from Cameron�s property to Ball �treet. Motion seconded by Alderman Harwell and passed by an aye �ote by all. The City 5ecretary �as instructed by the Council to investigate reports that property at and n�ar 624 Dooley Street is being used for a commercial bus�ness which is in violation of: the Cityts Zonning Ordinance. Messrs. Allen and Esslinger of the Southwestern States Telephone Company were present to discuss and persue further the Telephone Company�s proposed ra#e increase. They also presented two certified copies of the Companyts operating results based on the year ending June 30, 1959. After discussion Alderman Harwell motioned to re�ect the Telephone Company�s rate increase proposal because Telephone service in Grapevine does not �ustify an in- k crease at this time and that when their proposed improvements � in Telephone Service, as outlined by the Company, are comple�ted an increase in Telephone rates will be considered. Motion seconded by Alderman Hayward and passed by an aye vote by all Councilmen. Alderman Kaker motioned that before the water line extention in the North Side Addition be made Mr. Higgins should meet �ith � the Council for further discussion on the matter. Motion seconded by Alderman Matthews and passed. Alderman Deacon motioned to approve Bobby Adam1s vacation for the weeks of July 31 & August 7. �otion seconded by Alderman Matthews and passed. f i �• Alderman Deacon motioned to hold up on a decision on Jim Barn�s request to have the all�y ad�acent to his property deeded to him if the City has no use for it. Motion seconded by Adderman Matthews and passed. Alderman Hayward motioned to accept the low bid of Ragsdale Garage of �80.00 repair and repaint the Water Department �s Service Truck. Motion seconded by Alderman Deacon and passed. Alderman Kaker motioned that Mr F. E. Tuckerts ��quest'.to tye on to the City�s water line for service be denied unless he comes in to the City Limits. Motion seconded by Alderman Harwe 11 and:�passed. The Council authori�ed the Mayor to appoint a Tax Equilization board f or 1960. Tabled for discussion at a later meeting were the following , items: Multiple connections equalization, and Repairs to the City Hall .
