HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-12-06 Regular Meeting D�cember 6 , 1560 The �i *y Council met in regular session on the above date those present were ��ayor Johnson, Alderman Matthews, Harwell , Deacon, Kaker, and Hay�ard . Sev�ral local citizens Was present aleng with Mr. Allen and Ess2inger of the Southw�stern �States Telephone Co. The minutes of the previous meetings was read and approved as ! read . ' The Telephone Co. went over the finanical report submitted to the City and also tald the City of the improvements they were making and the first phase of their work would be completed by December 25, 1960. Also all citizens living inside the City Limits would : be put on City rates and would have a minimum of a 4 party line ser�ice . Also additional private lines will be available after , December 25, 1960 to subscribers in Grapevine . New territory or land brought into the City Limits of Grapevin_e would receive telephone service within six months from datE of annexation into the City Limits with City rates. �everal local citizens expressed their views to the Telephone Co. � in regard to the poor service they were receiving. ' A motion by Alderman Harwell that the rate increase for the Telephone Co. be postponed until after January 15, 1961 or after the work has been complet��d by the Phon2 Co. and if the service justifies a rate increase the City would propose a rate , increas e to the Telephone Co. , secondedby Alderman Hayward , motion carried . Mr. Russell representing Leslie Hill � s Sunshine Harbor addition, was present to ask when he could expect water 8 sewer to his � property so he may plan his work accordingly. The Council advised ' Mr. Russell that as soon as bids could be received and a contract let the work would begin. Dr. Lancaster advised the City he would petition the City to bring in approximately ��0 lots or Blocks 1 , 2, & 3 �n his , preliminary plot plan of Ridge Crest Estates as City lots and ' Block �, approximately 6 acres, as undev� loped acreage , ar.d with- in 5 years he would plot Block � as City lots if the City would extend water 8 sewer lines to his property. The City Council advised him to petition th2 city for annexation. , A�r. G. W. Smith and Dr. Wilkerson ask the City to put street lights along East NW Hwy from Maggard lUotors to the Cath olic Church, they would prefer rnercury vapor lights if possible . City advised Nr. Smith and Dr. 'Nilkerson to submit a proposed � plan on the location of the street lights they are requesting ; and_ the City will review the proposal and give them an answer ', to their request . Mr. Joe Box discussed with the City Council t�e idea of makeing plans for water & sewer line crossin�s ��n�er the new proposed ; super highway just south of town before the hichway is built. This planning wnuld bE for future d�veloping south of the highway for business and residents. P�r Box h�s property along this highway and he interested in getting city utilities if and when !; it develops. The City was to contact Mr. Bob Nichols of Freese , ' Nichols, and Endress Engineers and try to make plans for this ; crossinc before the highway is built to minimi2e the cost of the , crossing in future years. A�r. Nichols ;was to be called and ask to meet with the Nayor in reference to thetype of work that is being done on the water treatment plant , sewer, and wat.er lines now i� the City. The bid date for rec�iving the bids for the water 8 sewer line e :tensions to Dellwood Acres and Sunshine Harbor wss set for the lOth of January 1961 . ; .4 motion by Alderman Kal;er, seconded by Alderman Deacon to place "Yield-Right-Way" signs at Vine Street on the east 8 west side at its intersection with Pine Street, also "Yield-Right-Way" sign on ' Vine Street on the Esst side at its intersection with Terra,ce ' Drive , also "Yield-Right-Way" sign on Vine 5treet on the e,ast 8 west side at its intersection with Valley Vista, motion carried. A motion by Alderman Kaker, se.conded by Alderman Hayward to accept the 1960 City of Grapevine budget as submitted by the City 52cretary, budget is on file in the office of the City Secretary, motion carried. The 1961 proposed budget was tabled for further study. Council approved the widening of North IV1ain street to 27 � instead of the 201 as was to black topped by the oonstractor, City will pay the additional cost of the 7t of black top. City was to contact the State Highway D�partment in reference of ' securing a permit to connect N. Main street with State Highway 11�. and 121 wi th black top. � �ouncil authorized sending a �3.00 flower spray to the funeral . services of James Wells, former City Fireman. � The Mayor submitted to the council the drainare problem that exist on Bellaire Dr, between Vine Street � Terrace Dr, north to between Nash Street and West Dallas Road . To correct this it � would rmquire tearing the curb & gutter out on the east side of Bellaire Dr. and cutting the street dow n enough to take care of �"' the drainage , the approximate cost of this work wau'd be about �1 , 100.00. Council authorized the ll�ayor ta have this drainage taken care of. � � In reference to abandoning the alley in Block 3? between lots 2 and 3 in the Grapevine Survey, between P,��rs Thoma.s and Mr. Lon Oxford was tabled until more time could be spent on this subject by the council .
