SUBJECT: RESULTS OF 2013 CITY OFFICER AND CHARTER AMENDMENT
ELECTION
RECOMMENDATION:
Canvass the May 11, 2013 City Officer and Charter Amendment Election relative to City
Council Places 3 and 4, proposition for Mayor and Council term limits and approve a
resolution declaring the results.
BACKGROUND:
As of May 1, 2013, the City had 27,695 registered voters. The election was held on
Saturday, May 11, withbitizens casting a total of 3,300 votes for the following candidates
and proposition:
Council, Place 3 Mike Lease 1,885
Leon Leal 1,270
Under Votes 145
Council, Place 4 Darlene Freed 2,163
Marc Blum 881
Under Votes 256
Charter Amendment on Mayor/Council term limits
For 1,259
Against 2,025
Under Votes 16
By adoption of the attached resolution, Mike Lease, City Council Place 3 and Darlene
Freed, City Council Place 4, are declared duly elected to said respective offices, subject to
the taking of the oath on June 4.
The Charter Amendment proposition for or and Council term limits was submitted to
voters based on a petition accepted by the City Council on October 16, 2012. The
proposition failed to receive a majority of the ballots cast needed for approval.
