PLAN FOR RELOCATION OF THE HISTORIC GRAPEVINE HIGH
SCHOOL HOMEMAKING COTTAGE/BAND HALL, 712 LUCAS
STREET - TO FAITH CHRISTIAN ACADEMY CAMPUS,
WORTH AND AUSTIN STREETS
Staff recommends the following plan for relocation of the historic Grapevine High School
Homemaking Cottage/Band Hall to its original site at Worth and Austin Streets on the Campus of
Faith Christian Academy.
The Grapevine Township Revitalization Project, Inc. was offered the donation of the historic
Homemaking Cottage/Band Hall of Grapevine High School c. 1938 for the cost of one dollar.
The building now located at 712 Lucas Street sets on two residential lots and has served as a
church since its move to the site in 1963. The new owner of the property, Mr. Pemberton, a
custom homebuilder, plans to construct two new homes on the site. Should the GTRP not
receive the donation, Mr. Pemberton plans to salvage and demolish the building.
The building is of cultural and architectural value to the history of public education in the
Grapevine community. Many present day Grapevine leaders attended classes in Band and
Homemaking in the building. The original building with its decorative roof railing and columns
was built in the Colonial Revival style that was popular in the first half of the twentieth century.
Dr. Ed Smith, headmasterof Faith Christian Academy, was contacted with this information. The
School is interested in receiving the building, putting it back on its original location on the
campus, and using it as the Faith Academy Board Room and the Head Master's Office..
A plan of action is attached below.
a. GTRP, Inc. staff would coordinate the move.
b. Select house mover and arrange for appropriate permits
c. School will construct new concrete foundation on original building site.
d. Building moved in one piece, with back "L" moved as separate structure.
e. Building pieces placed on new foundation.
f. Exterior overlay siding removed, original windows revealed and original siding restored
g. Staff assists school with appropriate restoration plans.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF
A PERMIT AUTHORIZING THE RELOCATION OF A
BUILDING; PROVIDING FOR A NON -TRANSFERABLE
PERMIT; PROVIDING A SITE PLAN AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, an application was filed to relocate a building on a particular tract of
land; and
WHEREAS, the building official investigated the application and determined that all
requirements of the Building Code and other applicable ordinances had been or would be
met; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager, or his designated representative, set a date for
public hearing about which proper notice was given.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the above findings are hereby found to be true and correct and
are incorporated herein in their entirety.
Section 2. That Move -In Building Application MIB07-01 was filed by Faith Christian
School to move -in one (1) building of approximately 2,121 square feet at 730 East Worth
Street, platted as Lot 1, Block A, Lot 2, Block B, Faith Christian School Addition, City of
Grapevine, Tarrant County, Texas and is hereby approved.
Section 3. That said permit is not transferable and shall apply only to the
applicant heretofore mentioned.
Section 4. That said permit be issued in accordance with the site plan attached
as Exhibit "A".
Section 5. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 20th day of February, 2007.
