SUBJECT: APPROVAL TO RENEW AN ANNUAL CONTRACT FOR
WATER METER REGISTERS
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval to renew an annual contract for the purchase of water
meters registers from HD Supply Waterworks, LTD. on an as- needed basis and not
accept the non - renewal request from Hersey Meters Company for water meters.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds for this purchase are available in account 100 - 14111 -0000 (General
Fund/Warehouse Inventory) in the amount of $15,000.00.
BACKGROUND:
Bid 329 -2010 was issued in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252,
Subchapter B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 252.041 (a). The bid was advertised in
the Fort Worth Star Telegram on October 29, 2009 and November 5, 2009. The bid was
opened publicly on November 13, 2009. The contract was for an initial one -year period
with four, one -year renewal options. If renewed, this would be for the third renewal
period.
The purpose of this bid was to establish fixed annual pricing for the purchase of various
types of water meters and registers on an as- needed basis to be used by the Public
Works Department and stocked in the warehouse.
Bids were issued to four vendors with all four vendors responding. Bids were submitted
for 15 items. HD Supply was lowest on all meter registers and Hersey Meters was lowest
on all water meters.
Due to Public Law 111 -380, Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) the current production of
all lead brass items will end January 4, 2014. Most manufacturers and distributors will
begin selling only no -lead brass by June 2013 to comply with the new law.
