FUNDING SOURCE: Funds for the purchase of the firefighting gear lockers are available in account 325- 42281-210-12 and 100-42281-210-3 (Capital Apparatus and Tools and General Fund Operations Apparatus and Tools) in the amount of $18,700 and $800.00 for a total of $19,500. BACKGROUND: The firefighting gear lockers were one of the Capital projects approved in the 2012 budget. The firefighting gear lockers will be installed at Firehouse Two and Three. Quotes were taken in accordance with the City's Purchasing policy. Quotes were received from three vendors. From the three vendors we received four quotes. The Fire Department is recommending the second lowest quote based upon the best value. Reasons we determine Longhorn Locker Company to be the best value are as follows: turn around time of 6-8 weeks vs. 8-9; Galvanneal steel construction with "no rust guarantee" vs. cold rolled steel; custom designed for the Grapevine Fire Department; six inch legs to aid in firehouse cleaning; louvered doors to prevent light from decomposing gear; as well as prototype built before production to ensure customer satisfaction. Quotes Received: Longhorn Locker Company $19,500 Storage Equipment Company $16,875 Storage Equipment Company $19,845 Classroom Furniture.com $20,130 Of the four quotes received, Longhorn Locker Company was the second lowest bid and the overall best value bidder meeting and exceeding specifications. Staff recommends approval. DB/BS
