HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 08 - Guaranteed Maximum Price for Construction of Public Safety FacilityMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: • RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: MAY 5, 2015 SUBJECT: CONSIDER APPROVAL OF THE GUARANTEED MAXIMUM PRICE FROM MANHATTAN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY RECOMMENDATION: City Council consider approving the Guaranteed Maximum Price from Manhattan Construction Company for the construction of the Public Safety Facility in the amount of $33,831,549.00, authorize the City Manager to execute the necessary documents and take any necessary action. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available from General Obligation Bonds approved by 77% of the Citizens of Grapevine in November 2012 totaling $38.6 million. Below is a breakdown of the $38.6 million for the project. Guaranteed Maximum Price 33,831,549 FF & E 1,320,000 Professional Services (Architect, Engineering & Testing Services Fees) 3,274,451 Bond Issuance Costs 174,000 TOTAL $38,600,000 BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The construction of the Public Safety Facility provides a much needed complex to serve the Police Department, the Fire Department Administrative staff, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the Information Technology Division and Municipal Court. City Council approved the first phase of the CMAR contract for Preconstruction Services with Manhattan on November 19, 2013 in an amount of $30,876.00. The second phase of the CMAR contract establishes the price for Manhattan to construct the project, which is the amount recommended this evening of $33,831,549. This amount includes the funds and the appropriate contingency necessary to construct the project as previously reviewed with the City Council. The staffs of the Architect (Brinkley Sargent Wigington), the CMAR (Manhattan) and the City have worked diligently over the last several months to hone the project down and refine the costs to remain within the project budget. Staff recommends approval.
