SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF AWARD TO PURCHASE LUMBER FOR
REPLACING DECKING ON PEDESTRIAN BRIDGES ALONG C.
SHANE WILBANKS TRAIL AND BIG BEAR CREEK TRAIL
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider an award to Bowie -Sims- Prange for the purchase of lumber to
replace decking on pedestrian bridges along C. Shane Wilbanks Trail and Big Bear
Creek Trail for the Parks and Recreation Department in the amount not to exceed
$26,000.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are budgeted in account 174 - 74015- 056 -000 Street Maintenance /Capital
Replacement/Trail Maintenance.
BACKGROUND:
Bids were taken in accordance with City Purchasing Policy. Formal bids and
advertisements are not required for purchases under $50,000. Five vendors were
notified of the bid. Three bids were received.
The purpose of this bid is for the Parks and Recreation Department to replace the
decking on two pedestrian bridges along the C. Shane Wilbanks Trail and four
pedestrian bridges along the Big Bear Creek Trail. The decking on these specific bridges
is 10 -15 years old, have become old and worn out, and are in need of replacement
before they become a safety concern.
Per the specifications, along with the stated bid, vendors could submit an alternate bid
for pre - treated wood. Bowie -Sims- Prange submitted the lowest bid that exceeded
specifications (see attached sheet).
Staff recommends an award to purchase lumber to replace decking on pedestrian
bridges along C. Shane Wilbanks Trail and Big Bear Creek Trail from Bowie -Sims-
Prange in the amount not to exceed $26,000.
