HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 01 - 2007 City Officer Election ResultsMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: MAY 21, 2007 SUBJECT: RESULTS OF 2007 CITY OFFICER ELECTION RECOMMENDATION: Canvass the May 12, 2007 City Officer Election for City Council Place 3 and City Council Place 4 and consider a resolution declaring the results and calling the run-off for June 16, 2007. There are 26,545 registered voters in the City as of May 1, 2007. The election was held on Saturday, May 12, 2007, with citizens casting a total of 2,537 votes for the following candidates: Council, Place 3 Mark Born 664 Mike Lease 666 Rob Undersander 446 Traci D. Wilkinson 709 Council, Place 4 Darlene Freed 1,774 Warren Hummer 523 By adoption of the attached resolution, Incumbent Darlene Freed, City Council Place 4 is declared duly elected to said respective office, subject to the taking of the oath and filing of a bond as provided by the laws of this State and the ordinances of this City. In City Council Place 3, no candidate received a majority of the total votes cast. A run-off election between the two candidates receiving the most votes shall be held on June 16, 2007 at the Grapevine Community Activities Center, 1175 Municipal Way. Tarrant County Elections Administrator will conduct said election. Early voting will begin on Monday, June 4, 2007 and run through Tuesday, June 12, 2007. Attached are copies of the unofficial election results as well as Grapevine's voting history. LH/jcb RESOLUTION NO. 2007-29 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE 2007 CITY OFFICER ELECTION; CALLING A RUN-OFF ELECTION AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, there came to be considered the returns of an election held on the 12th day of May, 2007 for the purpose of electing the hereinafter named officials, and it appearing from said returns, duly and legally made, that there were cast at said election 2,537 valid and legal votes; and WHEREAS, each of the candidates in said election received the following votes: COUNCIL PLACE 3 MarkBorn.................................................................................... 664 MikeLease.................................................................................. 666 RobUndersander......................................................................... 446 TraciD. That said election was duly called; that notice of said election was given in accordance with law; and that said election was held in accordance with law; and that the following named person was duly elected to the office indicated: Council Place 4 Darlene Freed Section 2. That the said above person is hereby declared duly elected to said respective office, subject to the taking of the oath and filing bond as provided by the laws of this State and the ordinances of this City and that in Council, Place 3 no candidate received a majority of the total votes cast. A run-off election between the two candidates receiving the most votes shall be held on June 16, 2007 at the Grapevine Community Activities Center, 1175 Municipal Way. Said election will be conducted by Tarrant County Elections Administrator. Section 3. That this resolution shall become effective from and after the date of its passage.
