RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS ENDORSING THE PURCHASE OF
STEAM LOCOMOTIVE NO. 2248 AND TENDER; SIX
PASSENGER COACHES NOS. 206, 207, 208, 209, 1808
AND 1818; AND DOUBLE BAY CABOOSE FROM FORT
WORTH & WESTERN RAILROAD AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, Fort Worth & Western Railroad began operation of a steam
excursion train from Fort Worth to Grapevine on August 30, 1996; and
WHEREAS, the operation of the steam excursion train has continued to the
present time except for the time from January 2000 until December 2000 when the train
was under lease to Coe Sun Rail of Michigan; and
WHEREAS, railroading is an integral part of the history of Grapevine; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of the Cotton Belt Railroad Historic District will
ensure the recognition of the importance of railroading to the community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau entered into a
seven year lease with Fort Worth & Western Railroad on December 1, 2000 to operate
the steam excursion train; and
WHEREAS, the excursion train is an icon of the Grapevine tourism industry
through regular runs, charters, and special events such as Day Out With Thomas and
North Pole Express; and
WHEREAS, Fort Worth & Western Railroad has agreed to sell the above listed
equipment to the Grapevine Vintage Railroad for the sum of $320,000 (exclusive of
caboose) on December 1, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Fort Worth & Western Railroad has agreed to an early sale of the
above listed equipment to the Grapevine Vintage Railroad to include all related tools
and equipment and the inclusion of the above mentioned rail -ready double bay caboose
for $355,000 on July 2, 2007; and
WHEREAS, the Convention & Visitors Bureau and the City Manager recommend
the purchase of said equipment from Fort Worth and Western Railroad.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated in the preamble are true and correct and
incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the Grapevine Vintage Railroad purchase from Fort Worth &
Western Railroad Steam Locomotive No. 2248 and tender; Six Passenger Coaches,
Nos. 206, 207, 208, 209, 1808 and 1818; Double Bay Caboose and related equipment
in an as -is condition.
Section 3. That the purchase price for said equipment is $355,000 payable by
cashier's check (or equally negotiable instrument) dated no earlier than July 2, 2007
and no later than July 3, 2007.
Section 4. That on receipt of payment, Fort Worth & Western Railroad will
provide to the Grapevine Vintage Railroad a bill of sale.
Section 5. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 19th day of June, 2007.
