APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF A THERMOPLASTIC
PREMELTER KETTLE FOR THE TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT
City Council to consider approval to purchase a Thermoplastic Premelter Kettle for the
Traffic Operations Division from Advance Striping Equipment in the total amount of
$18,707.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in account 325 - 48860 - 415 -11 Capital Equipment Machinery
Purchase Fund /FY2011 Capital Acquisitions /Machinery and Equipment.
BACKGROUND:
On November 20, 2007 Council approved the purchase of a thermoplastic premelter
kettle and trailer. The kettle and trailer were a replacement that updated the material
capacity and type of heat source necessary to meet the demands of the pavement
marking program.
That purchase included a trailer that had ability to house two Thermoplastic premelter
kettles to allow for the heating of two colors at the same time. Due to funds available
only one kettle was originally purchased and the second kettle was planned to be
purchased at a later date. This request is for the purchase of the second kettle, which
was planned for in the FY2011 budget.
Due to the satisfactory performance history of the unit purchased in 2007, reliability and
safety reasons, staff recommends that the second kettle match the existing equipment
previously purchased.
Staff recommends approval to purchase a Thermoplastic Premelter Kettle for the Traffic
Operations Division from Advance Striping Equipment in the total amount of $18,707.
