HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 02 - Station Master's HouseITEM # 2 MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: APRIL 5, 2011 SUBJECT: STATION MASTER'S HOUSE RENOVATIONS RECOMMENDATION: The Convention & Visitors Bureau staff recommends that the City Council consider authorizing funds for the renovation of the Station Master's House at 624 S. Dooley Street in an amount not to exceed $65,000. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Festival division, account 7002 -7875. BACKGROUND: The CVB purchased the property in September 2005 to expand the railroad district property to accommodate future needs of commuter rail and Grapevine Vintage Railroad co- existing in the Cotton Belt District. As mentioned at the Council Workshop on March 1, 2011, there exists a need to relocate the offices of the Texas Wine & Grape Growers Association and the Dallas Fort Worth Area Tourism Council to continue the development of the museum district and Cotton Belt Railroad District. To accomplish this we are requesting to renovate the Station Master's House for these organizations. This can be accomplished internally for $65,00.0. This adaptive reuse allows for the building's use to support two important non- profit marketing organizations and generate a revenue stream for the property. There is currently an adequate fund balance in the Festivals Division account that will provide for $65,000 for the renovation of the Station Master's House. It has been several years since festival proceeds have been available for this purpose and we know volunteers will be appreciative of raised money going for this purpose again. March 30, 2011 (9:20AM)
