PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT SERVERS FOR THE CITY'S
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY COMPUTER NETWORK
City Council to consider approval to purchase replacement servers for the Information
Technology department from Able Electronics. The total cost is not to exceed $18,507.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for this purchase is currently available in account 325 -48860 -101 -11 Capital
Equipment/Machine Purchase Fund /City Manager/2011 Capital Acquisitions /Machinery
and Equipment.
BACKGROUND:
Quotes were taken in accordance with City Purchasing Policy. Formal bids and
advertisements are not required for purchases under $50,000. Three vendors submitted
quotations. A copy of the quote tabulation listing all pricing received is attached for
review.
This purchase is for the normal scheduled replacement of three host file servers that
have been in continuous service for over four years. These host file servers are high
end file serves that use virtual server technology to house from 5 to 30 logical file
servers with special applications in each host physical file server. These servers are
purchased as a kit that we assemble in house saving at least 50% over the cost of a
name brand file server.
Able Electronics was the lowest quote that met specifications and has provided this item
to the City in the past with satisfactory results.
Staff recommends approval to purchase replacement servers for the Information
Technology department from Able Electronics. The total cost is not to exceed $18,507.
