SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION FOR THE PURCHASE OF
MOTOROLA MOBILE WORKSTATIONS AND
ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT FROM DFW
COMMUNICATIONS THROUGH AN INTERLOCAL
AGREEMENT WITH THE HOUSTON - GALVESTON AREA
COUNCIL
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of the purchase of seven Motorola mobile workstations
and associated equipment from DFW Communications through an interlocal agreement
with the Houston - Galveston Area Council. The total cost of this purchase is not to
exceed $40,704.30.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for this purchase is currently available in account 325 - 42281- 210 -11 Capital
Equipment/Machine Purchase Fund /Fire /FY2011 Capital Acquisitions /Apparatus and
Tools.
BACKGROUND:
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal agreement with the
Houston Galveston Area Council (HGACBuy) as allowed by Texas Local Government
Code, Section 271.102. Bids were taken by the Council and a contract was awarded to
Motorola, Inc. under contract number RA 01 -08 effective until December 31, 2011. The
interlocal agreement and cooperative purchasing agreement satisfy all bidding
requirements under the Local Government Code.
The Grapevine Fire Department wishes to purchase seven Motorola MW810 mobile
workstations and associated equipment from DFW Communications. The equipment will
replace aging mobile workstations that are up to seven years old at the end of their
normal life expectancy and are an essential piece of equipment for receiving emergency
incident information, recording response times, city maps, and as a platform for other
emergency related software.
Staff recommends approval.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
OR THE CITY MANAGER'S DESIGNEE TO PURCHASE
MOTOROLA MOBILE WORKSTATIONS THROUGH AN
ESTABLISHED INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, Texas is a local government in the State of
Texas and as such is empowered by the Texas Local Government Code, Section 271.102
to enter into a Cooperative Purchasing Program Agreement with other qualified entities in
the State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative H- GACBuy is a
qualified purchasing cooperative program as authorized by Section 271.102 of the Texas
Local Government Code; and
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, Texas has established an Interlocal Agreement
with the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (H- GACBuy) and wishes to use
established contracts meeting all State of Texas bidding requirements; and
WHEREAS, the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (H- GACBuy) has
established a contract with DFW Communications, contract #RA01 -08, for Motorola Mobile
Workstations; and
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine is in need of Motorola Workstations to replace
existing older technology.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and
are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Grapevine authorizes the purchase
of Motorola Mobile Workstations through an Interlocal Agreement with the Local
Government Purchasing Cooperative (H- GACBuy) for $40,704.30.
Section 3. That the City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to take all steps
necessary to consummate the purchase of said products and services.
Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 6th day of September, 2011.
