SUBJECT: CONSIDER APPROVAL FOR THE PURCHASE OF A
EMERGENCY BYPASS PUMP FOR KIMBALL LIFT STATION
AT THE WASTEWATER PLANT.
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval for the purchase of an emergency bypass pump for
Kimball Lift Station at the Wastewater Plant from Odessa Pump and Equipment, Inc. for
the amount not to exceed $38,640.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are budgeted in the following account 200 - 48860 -531 -1 Utility Enterprise
Fund/Wastewater Collections /Machinery and Equipment.
BACKGROUND:
Quotes were taken in accordance with city purchasing policy. Formal bids and
advertisements are not required for purchases under $50,000. Seven vendors were
notified of the request for quote. Three quotes were received through the purchasing
division. (See attached sheet.)
The purpose of this purchase is to provide emergency bypass pumping capabilities at
the Kimball sewer lift station in the event of power outages. Due to the limited storage
capacity at this lift station, the pump would provide reliability to the station to prevent any
sanitary sewer to escape the collection system. An evaluation of the quotes received
was done by the Public Works Department to determine if all the specifications were met
and that the pump would perform as outlined in the specifications.
Odessa Pump and Equipment, Inc. provided the lowest quote that met specifications.
Staff recommends approval for the purchase of an emergency bypass pump for Kimball
Lift Station at the Wastewater Plant from Odessa Pump and Equipment, Inc. for the
amount not to exceed $38,640.
