HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-07-18 Regular MeetingSTATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF TARRANT CITY OF GRAPEVINE The Library Board of the Grapevine Public Library of the City of Grapevine, Texas met at the Grapevine Public Library in the Regular Session on the 18th day of July 2022 at 6:30 pm. The following members present to -wit: Lynda Brown Chairman Sonia Duque-Miyashita Member Suzanne Matthews Member Gerald Shannon Member Megan Li, Member Krishna Shenoy Secretary Darlene Freed City Council Liaison constitute a quorum with the following members of the City staff: Leigh Kapsos and Chad Hetterley, Acting Library Directors. 1. CQALL TO ORDER The Meeting was called to order by Lynda Brown at 6:30 pm. 2. CITIZEN COMMENTS 1 attendee (name unknown) - came to observe 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion by Gerald Shannon to approve the April 18, 2022 minutes, seconded by Krishna Shenoy, Ayes: Unanimous Nays: None A. Library accreditation Grapevine Public Library accreditation was approved. B. Library will be a Voting Location The library will be a voting location for both the early and general voting in the upcoming elections. Expect to see an increase in Library attendance. C. Musical Instrument Lending Library New musical instruments will begin lending out in the month of August. Acoustic and electric guitars, headphones, microphone, amplifier, and two keywords were secured via Texas State and Library and Archives Commission grant. D. Centennial Committee Centennial Committee has been created and will meet in August to begin formal planning for GPL's centennial year of celebration. Darlene suggests getting event and program dates on the calendar as soon as possible. E. Summer reading oroaram Summer Reading Club is busy. Will provide a full update at the next meeting. F. New staff member Paige Lambert Library assistant in Circulation and Kaitylyn Charmichael, Library Assistant in Circulation have joined GPL. G. GPL App Update App is now available in the Apple Store. This latest app has been through a rigorous testing period. Board is encouraged to try the app and should send feedback to Leigh and Chad directly. H. Connections A new program called "Connections" will bring together parents of special needs children for discussion and support. This program meets the second Thursday of each month from 6-7 pm. The Library plans to increase promotion by reaching out to other special needs resources, schools, and groups in the area. Local business owner, Jennifer Helton, suggested and arranged for a Speaker Series. Typically, the Speaker will present for 20-30 minutes, the rest of the time will be for parent discussion. 1. August 11 Educational diagnostician and local autism prover 2. September 8 Grapevine Fire Department [Gerald suggested the Police Department should also come and speak.] 3. October 13 Early Childhood development and behavior specialist 4. November 10 Trauma specialist 5. December 8 Preparing for the holidays Darlene Freed suggested having a Library booth at the next festival to promote all the other programs. Seed Library Exchange Seed Library has been very well received. Programs related to gardening and seed retrieval are being planned. Seed library has a dedicated webpage now on the website and information about how to collect seeds and share photos of plants people have grown with seeds from the Seed Library. J. Discussion Darlene explained the City Council is considering additional funding for the Library to update the appearance of the facility in anticipation of the 100 year anniversary of the library in 2023. Maybe even adding a coffee bar. Discussions are in the process with the City. Other City news from Darlene: 1. Hofbrau will be replacing the Brickhouse. 2. MeowWolf will taking over the Burlington space at the Grapevine Outlet Mall in late 2023. 3. City will be temporarily installing an ice-skating rink in the middle of the plaza for Christmas 2022. 4. City aims to make the downtown area more pedestrian -friendly during the 2022 holiday season. 5. The drone show will be returning the second and third Saturday in December 2022. 6. Chicken Pickle will be opening in mid-2023. 7. Rotary Club will have hold its annual Duck Race in collaboration with Great Wolf Lodge on May 4th, 2023 K. Next Board Meetina The next Board Meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 17, 2022 at 6:30 pm. There was no formal action taken. 5. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Gerald Shannon, seconded by Suzanne Matthews, to adjourn meeting. Meeting was adjourned at 7:25 pm.
