SUBJECT: NASH FARM / COLLEGE STREET PLACEMENT OF UTILITIES

RECOMMENDATION:
City Council consider authorizing the City Manager to enter into agreements with Oncor,
Verizon and Time Warner for the relocation of their aerial facilities along College Street
bordering Nash Farm to a new conduit run in the amounts of $23,317.37, $41,690.87
and $25,593.00 respectively, and take any necessary action.
FUNDING:
Funds are available in the Utility Fund.
BACKGROUND:
Staff briefed the City Council in a workshop on September 16, 2009 on revised cost
estimates from the three utilities to place their facilities underground along the stretch of
College Street bordering Nash Farm to resolve conflicts with the existing tree line.
Staff originally received costs from the utilities and presented them to the City Council
in June, 2009. The costs at that time were in the neighborhood of $450,000.
Since that time, Oncor, in particular, has revised their scope of needed adjustments and
has significantly reduced their costs. The other two utilities have also reviewed their
initial estimates and have been able to reduce the costs to a lesser degree.
The total estimated cost for this utility relocation is $125,670.24, including the City's
cost for hiring a boring contractor to install the conduit in which the three utilities will
place their new facilities, estimated at $35,070.
Staff recommends approval.
