HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 08 - Surplus Property I T MMM MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: OCTOBER 6, 2009 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION FOR THE DONATION OF SURPLUS PROPERTY TO PARRAS DE LA FUENTE, COAHUILA, MEXICO RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider a resolution for the donation of a play structure, two swing sets, climber and a bounce teeter-totter to Grapevine's sister city, Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico. Please see the attached resolution. BACKGROUND: Funds have been approved in the FY 2009-2010 budget to replace several pieces of play equipment at C. J. Hutchins Park and there is an item on the agenda this evening to purchase the play equipment for the park. Also, staff is in the process of replacing the swing set at Cluck Park with funds that were approved in the FY 2008-2009 budget. The Council approved a resolution at the November 4, 2008 meeting to donate play equipment from the Oak Grove Soccer Complex to Parras. Some Council Members have been to Parras to see that play equipment that was installed by members of the Parras Rotary Club. The citizens of Parras are very excited about their new play equipment. If the Council approves the resolution to donate the used play equipment from C. J. Hutchins Park and Cluck Park to Parras, staff from the Convention & Visitors Bureau will deliver the equipment on the next trip to Parras. Play equipment that is removed from the parks is typically cut up and put in the scrap metal bin for recycling. Play equipment is replaced approximately every 12 to 15 years. Q� A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, DECLARING CERTAIN PROPERTY SURPLUS AND/OR SALVAGE; PROVIDING FOR THE DONATION OF SAID PROPERTY TO PARRAS DE LA FUENTE, COAHUILA, MEXICO; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, it has been determined that the City of Grapevine is in possession of surplus and/or salvage property; and WHEREAS, two items would be of use to Grapevine's sister city, Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety. Section 2. That the following items are declared surplus and are donated to Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico: One play structure with a slide and climbers, one swing set, one climber and one bounce teeter-totter from C. J. Hutchins Park and one swing set from Cluck Park. Section 3. That the City Manger, or his designee, is authorized to make the above item available to Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico. Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its passage. PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 6th day of October, 2009.
