HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 13 - Bunker GearMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER i9 MEETING DATE: OCTOBER 18, 2011 SUBJECT: APPROVAL TO RENEW A CONTRACT FOR THE PURCHASE OF PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (BUNKER GEAR) FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT THROUGH AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval to renew a contract for the purchase of various types of protective clothing (bunker gear) for the Fire Department from Casco Industries through an interlocal agreement with the City of North Richland Hills. The total amount for this purchase is not to exceed the budgeted amount of $40,000. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in account 325- 42281 - 210 -11 -2012 Capital Equipment/Apparatus and Tools /Fire Department $40,000. BACKGROUND: This request is to renew a contract for the purchase of various types of protective clothing (bunker gear). Purchases will be made as required and in accordance with an interlocal agreement with the City of North Richland Hills as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Section 271.102 and satisfies all bidding requirements. Council originally approved a resolution to purchase from this contract on March 15, 2011. This request is for approval of a contract to purchase fire protective clothing (bunker gear) for the Fire Department to be used when responding to emergency calls. The triple layer clothing is made of fire resistant materials that make it possible for firefighters to enter burning buildings. The clothing conforms to the National Fire Protection Association's standards which specify a minimum standard of design, performance, safety, testing and certification requirements. The clothing consists of bunker jackets, pants and safety lettering. October 12, 2011 (3:02PM) Bids were taken by the City of North Richland Hills and a contract was awarded to Casco Industries under bid number 10 -042. The contract was for a 12 month period with an additional four renewal periods of 12 months. If approved this would be for the first renewal period ending on October 10, 2012. Casco Industries has provided this service to the City in the past with satisfactory results. Staff recommends approval. 1ACIV October 12, 2011 (3:02PM)
