SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF A LONG LINE
THERMOPLASTIC PAVEMENT MARKING SYSTEM FOR THE
TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval to purchase a Long Line Thermoplastic Pavement
Marking System for the Traffic Division from Advance Striping Equipment in the total
amount of$92,480.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in account 325-48860-000-00-0004/Capital Equipment Machinery
Purchase Fund/Machinery and Equipment.
BACKGROUND:
Invitations to bid were issued in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252,
Subchapter A, Section 252.041. The bid advertisements posted in the Fort Worth Star
Telegram on July 2, 2009 and July 9, 2009. Staff issued bid documents to five vendors.
Two vendors responded. The lowest bid meeting specifications was from Advance
Striping Equipment. A tabulation of the bids is attached for review.
This purchase is for a self-propelled, fully automated thermoplastic pavement marking
application system for traffic operations. The system is capable of a ribbon extrusion
type of shielded enclosed thermoplastic dispensing system that will allow long line
marking. The City has had the capability of short line marking for a while but has
contracted out long line marking. The new system will allow Staff to respond more
quickly to pavement marking requirements and will be more cost effective by meeting
our requirements in-house. This equipment was approved for purchase during this
budget year.
Staff recommends approval to purchase the Long Line Thermoplastic Pavement
Marking System from Advance Striping Equipment in an amount not to exceed $92,480.
