SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF FITNESS EQUIPMENT
FOR THE COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES CENTER
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval for the purchase of fitness equipment from Fitness
Center Outfitters for the Community Activities Center in the total amount of$33,075.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in account 325-48860-312-09-2009 Capital Equipment/Machinery
Purchase Fund/Machinery and Equipment/Parks.
BACKGROUND:
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing Interlocal Agreement with the
Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (Buyboard.com) as allowed by Texas Local
Government Code, Section 271.102. Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract
was awarded to Fitness Center Outfitters under contract number 261-07. The Interlocal
Agreement and Cooperative Purchasing Agreement satisfy all bidding requirements
under the Local Government Code.
Each year the Community Activities Center replaces one third of the cardiovascular
equipment in the CAC fitness room. This allows the CAC to keep all of its cardiovascular
equipment under warranty and provide its members with the most up-to-date equipment
on the market. It also helps to drastically reduce the CAC maintenance budget as
commercial cardiovascular exercise equipment only has a three year life expectancy in a
high traffic environment.
The total cost offered by Fitness Center Outfitters includes a trade-in value for existing
equipment. A list of the equipment and associated warranty, installation and freight
charges is attached for review.
Staff recommends approval to purchase the fitness equipment from Fitness Center
Outfitters in an amount not to exceed $33,075.
