HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 02 - Animal Shelter Advisory CommitteeMEMO TO: FROM: MEETING DATE: SUBJECT: RECOMMENDATION: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER NOVEMBER 1, 2011 APPOINTMENT OF A NEW MEMBER TO THE ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE Staff recommends the City Council approve the appointment of Ms. Debra Brantner for a two year term to the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee. BACKGROUND: This appointment will replace Ms. Kelly Bond who resigned her position as the Animal Welfare Organization member on the current Grapevine Animal Shelter Advisory Committee. Ms. Brantner has been employed by the City of Hurst since 1994. She has served as the Hurst Animal Services supervisor for 11 years. She also has a background as a veterinary technician and is a member of N -DART (National Disaster Animal Response Team). The Texas Health and Safety Code mandates the appointment of an Animal Shelter Advisory Committee composed of five members. The mission of the committee is to advise the City's Animal Control division regarding issues pertaining to animal bite prevention, zoonotic disease transmission, animal care and welfare, animal rescue, animal shelter standards, training of animal shelter personnel, and any other issues required by State Law.
