SUBJECT: APPROVAL TO PURCHASE A STORAGE AREA NETWORK
FOR THE IT DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of the purchase of a Storage Area Network from Parity,
Consultants for the IT Department in the total amount of$33,948.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in account 100-48860-120-1 General Fund/Machinery and
Equipment/General Administrative Services/Administration.
BACKGROUND:
In accordance with purchasing policy, Staff solicited written quotations for this purchase.
House Bill 3506 raised the formal bid limit requirement from $25,000 to $50,000.
Effective September 1, 2007, formal bids and advertisements are not required for
purchases under$50,000.
The SAS Starter SAN (Storage Area Network) is a network of storage disks that are
used to store data. All of the City's data is currently stored on the SAN along with the
virtualization of most City servers. The SAN is running out of room and additional space
cannot be allocated for data storage and expansion resulting in slow data access speed
and decreasing performance on the network.
In accordance with purchasing policy, Staff solicited three written quotations for this
purchase. The lowest and most responsive quotation was from Parity Consultants. A
tabulation of the quotations is attached for review.
Staff recommends approval of the purchase of the Storage Area Network from Parity
Consultants in the total amount of$33,948.
