HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 18 - Ambulance MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER 13Z MEETING DATE: OCTOBER 20, 2009 SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE PURCHASE OF AN AMBULANCE FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider the purchase of an ambulance from Professional Ambulance and Horton Manufacturing through a cooperative purchasing agreement with the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (Buyboard.com) in the total amount of$185,000. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in account 325-48910-210-10-2010 Capital Equipment/Machinery Purchase Fund. BACKGROUND: This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing Interlocal Agreement with the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (Buyboard.com) as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Section 271.102. Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to Professional Ambulance and Horton Manufacturing under contract number 324-09. The term of this contract is from 09/01/2009 until 08/31/2012. The Interlocal Agreement and Cooperative Purchasing Agreement satisfy all bidding requirements under the Local Government Code. This request is for the purchase of one new ambulance which will replace an existing ambulance that has been in service since 1998 and has been in reserve status for the past five years. The purchase agreement will be with Professional Ambulance of Texas representing Horton Manufacturing and through the Buy Board purchasing program for one 2009 Chevrolet 4500 series chassis ambulance with custom modular body. Professional Ambulance and Horton Manufacturing have met all the required specifications. The total cost is $185,000.00. Council approved this purchase during the budget process for this fiscal year and the purchase price is within the budgeted amount. Both companies have a proven track record of manufacturing excellent emergency medical service ambulances and providing exemplary after the sale service.
