HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 19 - Protective Clothing Bunker Gear IITEM MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER (5C1 MEETING DATE: OCTOBER 20, 2009 SUBJECT: APPROVAL TO RENEW A CONTRACT FOR THE PURCHASE OF PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (BUNKER GEAR) FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval to renew a contract for the purchase of various types of protective clothing (bunker gear) for the Fire Department from Casco Industries. The total amount for this purchase is not to exceed the budgeted amount of$42,600.00. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in account 325-42281-210-10-2010 Capital Equipment/Apparatus and Tools /Fire Department. BACKGROUND: This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing Interlocal Agreement with the City of Richardson as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Section 271.102. The City Council approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Richardson on May 3, 2005. The agreement allows the City of Grapevine to participate in contracts awarded by the City of Richardson. Bids were taken by the City of Richardson for Fire Protective Clothing (Bunker Gear) and a contract was subsequently awarded to Casco Industries on March 14, 2005. This request is for approval of a contract to purchase fire protective clothing (bunker gear) for the Fire Department to be used when responding to emergency calls. The triple layer clothing is made of fire resistant materials that make it possible for fire fighters to enter burning buildings. The clothing conforms to the National Fire Protection Association's standards which specify a minimum standard of design, performance, safety, testing and certification requirements. The clothing consists of bunker jackets, pants and safety lettering. Staff recommends approval to establish the contract with Casco Industries for fire protective clothing in an amount not to exceed $42,600.00. CD October 15,2009(9:55AM)
