HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 01 - Sister City Mission ITEM MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER 62- MEETING DATE: SEPTEMBER 1, 2009 SUBJECT: SISTER CITY MISSION (PARRAS DE LA FUENTA, COAHUILA, MEXICO) BACKGROUND: The Sister City Parras de la Fuente mission took place on August 6 through August 11, 2009. The delegation consisted of Council Members Sharron Spencer, Darlene Freed, Mike Lease and Chris Coy; three Grapevine/Colleyville Independent School District educators; nine Parras Sister City Committee members; four private citizens; and two Convention & Visitor Bureau staff members. The delegation met with Parras' Mayor and Council and participated in the unveiling of a plaque honoring Venustiano Carranza Garza, a pioneer and former President of Mexico's Constitution. The delegation also took part in the celebration of Parras' designation as one of the Sixteen Magical Cities in Mexico. Delegates met with members of the administration of Hospital Guadalupano, the Quinta Manuelita orphanage and school, the Fire Department and the Health Center. The delegation further met with the Rotary Club and initiated opportunities to bring students from SEPTA No 21 school to Grapevine for a musical/educational exchange. Councilwoman Sharron Spencer and Paul McCallum will make a brief presentation detailing the mission to include requests from the Parras Fire Department and Orphanage. 8/27/2009; 09:42:45
